Frames Per Second issue...

Start with what essential hardware I am currently running:

Foxconn K8S755A-6ELRS Socket 754 SiS 755 Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Socket 754
ZALMAN 600W Power Supply (Modular)
Western Digital Caviar 160GB 7200 RPM SATA
Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000 RPM SATA
2x 512mb + 1gb of Corsair Value Select DDR400
HIS Radeon X1950PRO 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X
O/S = XP 32bit SP2 updated.


Problem: My frames per second are not at all what they should be. Examples. Hitman Blood Money (unplayable) Counter-Strike : source (30fps average...) and these are with ABSOLUTE LOW settings. Weird thing is I can crank them up to higher resolution and medium/high settings (kind of settings I should run normally) and it stays about the same...its like my FPS is being capped (or bottlenecked) to a point.

The only thing I can think of is the motherboard cause it is the only real new thing I've installed...and I already have problems with the harddrive controler.(most the time when I reboot it wont even see any my harddrives, I have to do a warm boot)This motherboard was just a replacement, it needs updated...the bios on this thing hasn't had a revision sense 2005.

I have a similar issue, but I don't think its that bad. I am pretty sure it's my motherboard too

Sounds like a Vsynk problem to me, find the option in the drivers setup page and disable that feature.

I doubt vsync would take him down to 30fps with the absolute lowest settings in CSS, unless he runs at 30Hz :lol:
But check anyway, just in case.

If Vsynk cannot reach the default windows resolution of 60Hz (60 FPS) then in throttles the FPS down to 30FPS. If the FPS even drops below 60FPS for even a fraction of a second you will notice the FPS being throttled by stuttering that Vsynk produces when it throttles the FPS.

I'm pretty sure he has an AGP card, but not sure where his problem lies. Could 1 of his memory chips gone bad, thus causing ruckus?

V Sync was always disabled with ATI catalyst and Ingame. Yes This is an AGP graphics card, hence the AGP next to the graphics card name....READ MY POST BEFORE REPLYING...

I had a similar problem back in DOOM 3 days with a nvidia MSI M/B and a MSI 5700 Ultra my frames were around 20 in low and med setting so the support team told me update the BIOS of the M/B and what you know it worked... I also reinstalled the drivers just in case

Download CPUz and make sure everything is running at the speeds they are supposed to. I'm not sure what the problem would be, I'm thinking either heat throttling, or some other improper setting. The 3200+ and x1950pro should be good enough to handle the games your talking about, unless you are trying to push the resolution up to high. (might want to mention what res you are playing at.)

Uhm sounds to me like your nice video card is being bottlenecked by your slow CPU...

Nah it can't be that bad. I did have an amd 3000+ with a 6800OC and I got 60+ frames on med/high settings in CS.

Try the bios update, I can't think of any other problem other than defective units.
