Hello there!

As you can guess from the title I'm having issues with my RAM. I've just put together a fresh build with a MSI x570 Pro Carbon Wifi motherboard, Ryzen 3700x and G.Skill Trident Z 3600Mhz 16-16-16-36 RAM https://www.gskill.com/product/165/...ZDDR4-3600MHz-CL16-16-16-36-1.35V16GB-(2x8GB) .

I've tried multiple things, icluding both XMP profiles, manually overclocking the RAM and timings and nothing has worked so far. I am a newby in overclocking RAM so I don't really think I did everything correctly. I did also try the DRAM Ryzen Calculator and manually putting in the suggested inputs for a 'safe Ryzen 2 3600' build.

I have updated everything to the latest versions (BIOS, drivers, etc). My PC only works when the RAM is set to 2133MHz. In CPU-z, under SPD, it lists a XMP-3602 profile.

I've tried to search for solutions online but didn't come across anyone with similar issues.
Any ideas and teaachings about RAM overclocking are welcome since I specifically bought this kit to suite the CPU .. and so I want my speeeeed :p

Hope anyone can help! <3

EDIT: It's running stable on a 3200Mhz 14-14-14-34 preset so I'll leave it there since I had enough of this 'troubleshooting'.

Funny that, 3200mhz CL14, is practically as good as 3600 CL16. Either way, above 3200mhz and the returns on higher speed ram are almost negligible so I wouldn't be too hung up on that. The biggest jump comes from between 2400 to 2933mhz. It's about a 10-15% difference. When going from 3200 to 3600mhz for Ryzen and the infinity fabric, the difference is just 1-2%.

hmmm, its possibly just the DIMMS themselves.

The Carbon has good mem compatibility, and can take DIMMS up to 4400mhz.

Same issue here. Although I was hoping to avoid these issues by spending extra for " Trident Z Neo " Optimized for Ryzen. Sometimes I can get 3600 MHZ to post into windows but as soon as I run a light benchmark such as CPU-Z I watch the numbers plummet fast until I get a black screen and restart ( 6-9 seconds )

Initially, I bought this set https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820232866?Item=N82E16820232866 with bad timings, 18-22-22-42 , it ended up being SK Hynix, Best I could get it to run was 3333 Mhz @ 16-18-18-40. I RMAd those and spent more on a high-end kit of the same ram, https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820232858?Item=N82E16820232858 16-16-16-36, These ended up being Samsung B-Die. Same deal... I can hardly get into windows at 3600 MHZ., but as of now I got them running at 3400 MHZ @ 15-15-15-36 ( loaded the 3400 Mhz preset then tightened main timings and manually set 1.4 Volts. ).

I'm also a Ram overclocking noob so I've only adjusted the main timings and I tried all the preset profiles and " Mem Try it" in the Bios. I was dreading the fact that my Ryzen 3700X may just have an incredibly weak IMC.

Now I understand why people may want a dedicated clear CMOS button??????? god trying to remove this battery is killing me.

I guess this is good news we're both having the same problem, Probably unlikely to be our CPU/Ram, For w.e reason, these boards won't run 3600 MHZ... So I'm assuming next bios update we should be able to. ( I've tried both of the Bios available )

FYI I've noticed better boost clocks and performance on the older Bios at the cost of a bit higher voltages.

I have the same issue with the same RAM (2x8GB G.Skill Trident 3600 C16) and an Asus Rog Crosshair Hero VII board.

When I try to apply the 3600 MHz XMP profile the computer doesn't boot. Yesterday I managed to make it work with 16-16-16-36 timing by setting the values by hand and setting the RAM voltage at 1.4 V and an offset on SOC voltage of (+0.1V) but not only the performance where not much better than my old Corsair 3000 MHz but the computer didn't want to boot at all when I tried to turn it on this morning.

So after some tests the best I could do is 3333 MHz with 16-16-16-36. So no way I will pay 280$ for a memory kit that cannot run at its advertised specs. I bought this kit because I read that AMD says that 3600 MHz timing is the optimal spot for the Ryzen 3700x but either it doesn't work or gives disappointing benching results.

Since I am not the only one with this problem and nobody seems to have a working solution I guess I will return it and buy a much cheaper 3200 C14 kit.

Edit:

I just checked on the Asus website and officially the G.Skill F4-3600C16D is not supported by the Rog Crosshair Hero VII. The F4-3200C14D is there however. I guess I will have more luck with this one.

Update. I figured out my issue, my CPU won't go past 1733 MHZ on infinity Fabric, which means im limited to 3466 MHZ memory speeds in coupled mode, so i decided to lock my Fabric at 1733 and see just how high I can clock my memory. so far i'm at 4000 MHZ @ 16-16-16-36. and it still doesn't make up for the latency penalty incurred from decoupling. might try to go higher.. but it probably not even worth it. 3466 MHZ in coupled mode has about 6 less NS of latency and much more bandwidth. Regardless it would seem there is a bandwidth bottleneck on the fabric being stuck at 1733 that makes it useless to push higher Mem clocks.

it may likely be your CPU is reaching its IF limit. for me its 1733 mhz ( 3466 MHZ mem ) so my Next move would to find which voltages can be adjusted to try to get to 1800 Mhz IF.

" Adjusting SOC and VDDG voltages may help to stabilize higher speeds " For the IF but I don't know the safe numbers.

Out of curiosity I wonder where that falls on the silicon lottery, can you test your IF ? Thanks
