Did your pc come with Vist Home Premium? and you upgraded to Ultimate?

Cause I know Vista Home Premium is limited to 16gb, thats why I think Gateway told me 16gb was the max.

I dont know the true max of the board.

I had planned on upgrading my memory asap, so i could sell the old memory before it becomes a dime a dozen.

Hopefully I will have the 6 new sticks of memory by Friday, if not on Monday, then its back to testing them again to make them all work.

Did your pc come with a 1GB video card, instead of the stated 512mb video card?

I realize this tread is for the FX6800 but was wondering if anybody knows of a BIOS fix for my LX6810. The problem is I an unable to do the raid. This is first and last Gatwway I will buy due to the locked BIOS.

Thanks.
Charles

I bought the FX 6800-01e December 13th last year.

It came with the ATI Radeon 4850 with 512MB and Windows Vista -64 Premium

Purchased the Vista-64 Ultimate upgrade with it and did the upgrade the very next day as a
Clean install on a Western Digital Caviar Black Edition drive which I installed that same day.

Right now, with Gateway having recently become a subsidiary of Acer, it's like no one
really knows what they're doing and they can't seem to get their act together.

-

The true Max for the motherboard in this system "Should" be 24GB
- 6 memory slots rated @ 4GB each, for a total of 24GB

But the problem here is how much each Windows operating system supports and that there currently are NO Tri-Channel kits composed of 4GB sticks YET. Although I suppose you could purchase six individual 4GB DDR3 sticks at a cost of $2400.00 or more at current prices. There would be no guarantee that they would Match though meaning there could possibly be problems.

The way that Intel gets by with supporting 16GB on their X58 motherboards which have only
four slots is the first three sockets are individual and the fourth socket is shared.

- The FX 6800 Core i7 systems use the following

Motherboard: TBGM-01 8EKS3H

Bootup Identifier: 64-2776-009999-00101111 <BIOS Date & Version>

M/B #: MBG4109002842004A8EK00 (sticker found on top of eSATA ports on the motherboard)
- This number when looked up on Gateway's site brings up results for other (older) systems.

There are several different Brand and Model numbers using this same motherboard
- Acer Aspire M7720
- Packard Bell iPower 2.0 I9920

I've seen a few others, but off hand, I don't remember the Brand & model numbers.

It seems that everyone is having the same problem, no manual for this motherboard.

i got the gateway fx6800 from best buy a few days ago and went to their website and downloaded all the latest bios updates. the question i have is i replaced the original power supply to a 700 watt and changed the original 3gb memory with 12 gb ddr 1600mhz memory.

the bios sees 12gb but says its running at 1033mhz, windows vista also shows that its running at that speed.

is there somthing i am supposed to do in the bios to make the motherboard run the memory at the right speed, or at least a little faster?

if anyone has any good ideas on how to correct this problem please let me know :)

thx

I assume you purchased the Corsair HX3X12G1333C9 12GB Tri-Channel Kit?

Or possibly two 6GB Tri-Channel kits?

What ever brand you purchased, you can check the specifications at the manufacturer website.

-

The HX3X12G1333C9 kit is rated @ 1333MHz (that is 1.333GHz)

You can download and use CPU-Z to check your system and the memory.

I just checked mine after seeing your post and I've got the 12GB Corsair kit in my system and my system is currently running several programs.
CPU-Z shows it to be running at 2133MHz - That would be listed as NB Frequency on the memory tab.

Then on the same tab, under Timings, it shows 533.3 MHz for DRAM Frequency.

I'd have to reboot my system to see what the BIOS says.

With the New BIOS, TurboBoost is enabled. This engages Automatically as Needed. It adjusts the speed of your processor and (I assume) your memory, giving you more boost when you need it and idling things when not needed providing you with just what you need.

-

As to any Jumper settings, without the motherboard manual, I can't give you any advice in regards to using the jumpers.

You could try pulling half the memory, seeing what the BIOS says, then shutdown and replace the memory with the other three sticks to see if there is any difference. Cause if the memory is running under clocked and CPU-Z doesn't show a higher frequency, even under load, then it's possible you might have gotten one or more sticks where the actual rating is lower than what they're supposed to be.

A few replies back in this thread, I outlined a method for checking the memory.

In your BIOS it has a "TurboBoost" selection?

I have not seen any kind of setting for TurboBoost in the BIOS and I have the newest BIOS installed right now.

If you go to the Intel Website and lookup TurboBoost, they explain this feature.

From their explanation, it seems that TurboBoost is automatic. It engages as needed. It's kinda like the SpeedStep technology. But I do not recall if it uses the same tech or if it's related to it.

I'd have to reread the explanation to remember exactly how it was described.

This feature was enabled by the new BIOS update.

I just wish Gateway (Acer) would release the manual for the motherboard so we would know exactly what each of the jumpers on the board are for.

Oh ok, just wanted to check. From what i've read, TurboBoost only works under certain conditions...under heavy cpu usage and low cpu temp and stuff like that lol. But I think it mostly has to do with temperature.

Ever since I updated my BIOS, my system has had more of a kick to it. :)

If you don't mind a little bit of noise (loud fan), then in the BIOS disable Smart Fan. This will help to keep the CPU temp down, allowing the TurboBoost to work better.

But then again, I have a habit of running my system under heavy loads.

I read all your posts and tried everything....I am still getting the checksum error message
Can anyone help me?
I flashed the bios, everything went smoothly, but I still need to use f1 to rest

Gateway tech support useless

Renegade warrior, thanks for your help!!! If anyone has a problem with bios upgrade, DONT CALL Gateway, they are totally clueless and I wasted an hour while the rep looks for a picture of the motherboard so he can tell me where the cmos battery was located. Turns out that it was hidden under the video card.

Thanks to this info I was able to successfully do the bios update (yay). Perhaps not a smart thing but, in order to move off of 64 bit, I purshased 32 bit Vista ultimate and installed on my FX6800. After the install NO drivers were recognized. No network, no video, nada. Gateway indicates the only 32 bit thing they offer for the FX6800 is bios. From the technical specs I know the video card (and *should* be able to get up to date 32 bit drivers), but they say nothing about the network card brand. Anyone have any idea where I might get 32 bit network adapter drivers for this machine? I am in dire straights.
Thanks!

I honestly don't know if this system supports a 32-Bit Operating System.

Using another system, you'll need to locate and download the 32-bit drivers from the individual manufactures for the system. Then if you can get into windows on your system, you'll need to install these drivers.

Gateway does a poor job of providing up to date drivers for their systems.

Running 32-bit Vista you'll find that it'll only recognize 4GB memory.

Not for the faint of heart but I was able to install the Vista 32 bit Intel Network Card drivers successfully and get connectivity. Then I installed the 32 bit ATI Radeon driver successfully. Things seem to be running smoothly but I am not sure what driver's I might be missing so there may be problems in the future.

I only have the standard 3G anyway but yeah, I get that you wouldn't be able to go beyond 4G on a 32 bit machine.

BTW, Gateway made it clear this voids the warranty.

Thanks

Software can not void the warranty on the system, who ever told you that this voids the warranty is full of it.

As for drivers, go to softpedia.com, click on the drivers tab, then on the right, you'll see a listing for Intel Chipset software driver. You'll need the newest version. It contains both 32-bit and 64-bit drivers and will install what you need.

The video, you'll want the ATI Catalyst 9.3 32-bit drivers

You can go to the RealTek website and download the latest HD sound codec package (drivers)

Also, download and install http://www.fs-driver.org/ Ext2 IFS for windows. This will allow you to set a drive letter for the EISA partition and to access it. Careful not to damage any of the file structures in this partition as this is your Recovery partition. Most of the time keep the drive letter set to "none" when not accessing it.

You'll also need to install a program called 7-Zip

Now once you have installed the latest RealTek HD sound driver, you can set a drive letter for the EISA partition, then go to this directory.

<EISA Partition>:\D2D\Patch\MODULES\ACER-HQ1\DRV\CREATIVE X-FI XFMA-GWS1D-W2-LB-R00

There you will find two or more .wim files depending on when your system was assembled. You'll want to open the last one with 7-zip

You will see two directories and an .xml file. Extract the first directory to a temporary directory such as Creative. Once you've done this, open the directory and run the setup file. This will install Creative X-FI MB on your system. Don't worry, this is for both 32-bit and 64-bit. You can delete the directory after the install is finished. Don't forget to remove the drive letter for the EISA partition.

If you plan to do RAID or Hot Swap drives, you'll need to download and install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager from the Intel website.

I am running windows 7 on my FX 6800-01e which I got this week. I have not been able to get the system running smoothly - the crysis demo crashes after a few minutes, encoding video crashes too, and other game demos have crashed out.

I know its possible that it is becuase windows 7 is a beta, but something doesnt feel right. I've updated all my drivers - pretty much in line with everything you recommend, renegade (thanks for all the advice)

The only drivers missing now are 7 "system interrupt controllers" listed in the device manager - anyone know how I can get these installed?

You need to install the latest Intel Chipset Device Software Driver 9.1.0.1013 Beta to solve this problem.

Also, if you haven't already done so, upgrade your memory as 3GB is minimum for this system.
I listed a couple of good deals on core i7 memory earlier in this thread.

Seeing as you're into gaming, you'll probably want to upgrade the power supply. Corsair makes some good modular units.

Depending on the conditions where your system is, I would advise cleaning the dust from the system at least every 4 to 6 weeks. If you're in a fairly dust free environment, then check the system periodically to see how fast the dust builds up so you'll know how often it needs cleaning. The processor and the video card are two areas that will be affected the most by dust buildup. The power supply should be blown out too.

I have a full size air compressor in my basement with a line drier and copper pipes with fittings and flip level shut off valves on each section of the pipes. I have hookups outside and inside. The valves are so the compressor will hold the air longer when I'm not using it. The hookup inside has an air hose attached with a multi purpose handle with multiple tips. I usually keep the hard rubber nozzle on for dusting purposes. You can find this in the automotive section of such places as Walmart.

One thing I have noticed about this system is the poor ventilation in the front section of the system. This means that if you install more hard drives in the system, close together, the drives are going to get hot. You can easily fit a special purpose fan by the drives to draw the heat away from them, Even better would be to cut a hole in the side panel, beside the drives, deburr it, then install a mesh in the hole for ventilation with a fan sucking the air in through this hole, blowing directly on the drive cage.

Wow - that is a lot of maintenance...I haven't had to do any of that even once with my older computer and it never crashes (in 6 years...). I got the system interrupt controllers device drivers installed by navigating to the vista drivers area in the install directory of the Chipset device software - just running it did not fix the problem.

However, crysis still wont run without crashing after a couple of mins - do you think that is just the "lack" of memory?

Naw.....

Like I said, it all depends on how quick the dust builds up in your home. :)

As to memory, it's very possible. Don't forget, your video card is using some of that memory too. So when you're playing your game, it's probably using the drive a lot to supplement the memory.

Where I live, the dust seems to build up fast no matter what I do. I've tried running Airfilters in the house to suck up the dust. Nothing really seems to work. Our home is like 90 years old and dusty, so I have to clean my system regularly.

With my system, I dual-boot Vista-64 Ultimate and Windows 7 (64-bit)

I had the same problem with the drivers. One of the things I had to do was to was to take notes on all the items in the device manager that had yellow marks, then compare them to what was in Vista-64. This enabled me to fix a couple of items manually.

The main thing was when you would double on a yellow item, you would see like this as an example:

- PCI bus 0, device 31, funtion 3

This you can match up in Vista to this:

- Intel(R) ICH10 Family SMBus Controller - 3A30

And yes, this was one of the items that had a yellow mark and I was able to fix manually. I was only able to fix about two or three items this way. After that, it was touch and go to get the rest fix by installing the drivers.

Did you install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager yet?
This should have some of the drivers your system needs.

I just checked all my files (downloaded drivers) and I don't see anything else which may be needed to fix this problem.

What I can do is to create a list and post it in my next reply to make it easier for you to manually fix some of the items. Thing is, I don't recall exactly which items were the problem, so the list will be a little long.

These are all the ones I could find which you can manually identify although you won't be
needing all of them to identify the ones with yellow marks. These are all from Vista-64 on my system.

The Red items will help you to identify each item in Windows 7

Question,

I used CPU-Z and Lavalys EVEREST to check my system out before I even attempt to download the BIOS update, and came a cross some unique traits I guess you could say for my system. I have a Gateway FX 6800-01e and a 842P091G BIOS, yet I found those two programs that Turbo Boost is supported and enabled... Yet you all are saying its not.

Other system specs... Vista Ultimate x64, 12 GB of OCZ PC3-12800 triple channel and Nvidia Geforce 9800GT upgraded from the stock ATI Radeon HD4850 dual slot unit that came with the system.

In CPUZ and deep buried in the confines of EVEREST I found this that info... I am posting a sample of what CPUZ says in the Registers Dump(.txt) file....

....
Features XD, VT
Turbo Mode supported, enabled
Max non-turbo ratio 20x
Max efficiency ratio 12x
TDP Limit 130 Watts
...

I don't understand why your all upgrading when it says that.

Also, another question... Why is it that even in the same model, Gateway used different equipment, I have heard one person say they had only 512 MBs of ATI graphics card memory, yet mine had a dual slot with 1024 even though it stated on the box as having 512, another stated that their unit had a weaker power supply, yet I have the same 500 W most of you have... Yet another stated their RAM was 10666 running at 667, even showed the CPU-Z of it, and it was a Gateway FX 6800-01e, yet faster than even mine locked at 533 MHz even though my timings actually dropped... they are even more, like why the 2 slot black ATI card I have, why most of you have the single slot red one, why one person had wireless antenna leads from the factory in theirs and mine don't, why one had their GPU sitting in the top slot and mine came sitting in the bottom slot?

I don't understand why the versions with in the same model FX6800-01e are so different, yet could that explain why CPU-Z says that?

And how can you measure for Turbo Boost?

I been seeing my systems RAM slow down, and the timings go down from CL7 to CL5 for a few milli-seconds. What does that mean? ....

Thanks for any help you all can provide to this...
My main concern is Turbo Boost and is it enabled on my system...
The other questions may shed some like on why I am asking and not out right trying to upgrade the BIOS.

There is more than one model of the FX6800 systems out which is part of the problem.
All of them use the same motherboard, but the differences in the models is such as Video card, hard drive, CPU and wireless.

Models I've seen listed online so far in the last few months are:

FX 6800-01e
FX 6800-03
FX 6800-05
FX 6800-09

I don't know when each of these were produced for retail or if there are other models that have been sold, but they all
look much the same, with the exception of a new model which shows RCA connectors on the front panel to the left of
the FX6000 series label.

The original Specifications for the FX6800-01e is the ATI Radeon 4850 512MBwith 750GB drive and the Core i7 920 CPU

On the Gateway website, they do list the various models and what each is supposed to come with, although the specs
are not entirely correct such as how much memory is supported.

As to the various results others have had with the different items in their systems, it's possible that some stuff may have
been installed in the wrong systems (poor quality control perhaps) or that the systems were mislabeled or some such.
Either that, or Gateway may have decided to up the anty by throwing in a larger hard drive or better video card. My system
was manufactured in November and I purchased it in December.

As for this thread, I didn't start the thread.

Instead, I jumped in to help others who were having problems updating their BIOS.

Generally, the reason for updating the BIOS is cause Newer BIOS usually contain fixes for the system or even provide new
functionality by enabling features that previously were enabled or working.

Now I'm NOT going to say that I know for certain what's going on here with the new BIOS.

But Gateway specifically states that the new BIOS enables Enables the Turbo Boost features on the motherboard. They don't
make any mention of enabling it in the processor. So if it is already enabled in the processor, it's possible (I'm not saying this is the case)
that it wasn't working correctly cause of a problem with the motherboard itself. I'm NOT trying to state a fact here, instead I'm just speculating.

I do know this, after I updated the BIOS and the system reinstalled the chipset drivers, it did detect one or two items
that previously didn't show in the Device Manager. Off hand, I don't recall what the item/s were.

As to speculating about stuff, theorizing as to why something IS can be interesting and I enjoy doing so. :)

How to measure the TurboBoost, I honestly don't know without doing a bit of research myself into that subject.
I'm not much into gaming these days.

Like most poeple i have the gateway 6800-ole desktop pc.

I updated all patches on the the gateway website and yes had the problem with the checksum error but got that fixed reading other messages on this site :).
i did upgrade the power supply to a 700 watt. and changed the graphics card to a evga 295gtx switched off the onboard sound and added the xfi fatal1ty pci sound card ..and to be fair it all runs great but still The only problem i have found is my 12gb memory is running at 1066mhz when the memory is 1600mhz.

(The memory i have installed is gskill dd3 1600mhz 6gb*2.) I have switched memory sticks and also tried my friends ddr3 1333mhz memory(which runs correct speed on his pc).. no luck it always runs at 1066mhz. i have tried a few programs to check if the speed ups ,as the cpu does when needed but it stays the same no matter what.
i did try cpu-z like renegade warrior and got shown the same stats..
any ideas on the best way to get our memory running at the correct speed? seeing as gateway is about as much help as a hole in the head :) ..and if theres nothing we can do maybe at least it will save someone whos thinking of upgrading memory not to pay for something that will never run at the speed they would like.

Use CPU-Z to check the system if you haven't tried it yet.
Without the motherboard manual, it seems we are all screwed.

As to the updates on the Gateway website, all those files are the same as what came with the system except for the BIOS.

As I have stated previously, get the latest updates from the manufacturer websites such as RealTek, Intel, ect......

The only thing you won't find any updates for is the Creative X-FI MB as this is an OEM package for which it appears that Creative does not supply updates, at least none that I have been able to find.
