Getting gtx670 OC Which of these 2?

I have two 670's.MSI's GTX 670 Power Edition uses the famous Twin Frozr IV cooler from the MSI Lightning and comes with a large clock speed boost out of the box, making its default clock speed even higher than GTX 680 stock clocks. Here is some Professional reliable reviews w/ Benchmarks

Oh the 7950 wins hands down sorry. But that's if you're going to overclock. If you're lazy then go for the 670.

Food for thought: The 7950 beats the 670 when they are set to 1250MHz (670's highest stable clock speed) and the 7950 can go even further (1350MHz) I do not recommend ever taking a card to its limit though because it causes the cards to deteriorate at a accelerated rate. Also it all depends on your cooler to. The vapor-x was the cooler that allowed the 7950 to reach that clock. If it was reference cooler it probably be only able to reach ~1275-1285MHz.

Hmmm... that's odd my son has the vapor x 7950 it about 10% slower then my 670 the 7950 is a great card though go with that if you prefer but it is a matter of ones opinion which is better i can assure you that. http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/56546-msi-gtx-670-power-edition-oc-review-20.html (670 PE OC)

I have a vapor-x to and it beat my friends GTX 670? He could only get his to 1250 and run stable with the twin frozr cooler. I managed to get my 7950 to 1350. What clock could you get your 670 to? And could you tell me your son's clock to?

My son can't get it stable past 1280 i can get mine well beyond get 1.3GHz+ with kepler boost. Right now i have them @1292

That's really high for the 670. Nicely done.

Is his card the boost version or the regular version? I know that the boost has problems getting to overclock to over 1300.

Yes. And alot with the 7950 from (900 something to 1350MHz). Bigcyco did extremely good with his 670 but still not as good as what I got mine to because the 670 just doesn't have that amazing oc ability . But really once you get those points the performance difference is minimum. The 7950 beats the 670 by about 2-3%, but is also more expensive. Also it depends on the overclock-er. I'm very experienced, and Bigcyco is also-evidence from his 670 clock. I suggest going for the 7950 with a good cooler because it's cheaper and more bang for your buck performance then the 670.

Also back to the original question. Do you guys trust the single fan cooling of the cheaper MSI card that I posted up top?

And where should I buy these from amazon, newegg, tigerdirect? Any insider places to buy from. I LOVE DEALS

Thanks! And yes his is the boost version i didn't know it would have issues getting past 1300 though when i bought it for him hes still happy with it though so i am not mad about it ;)

use this site to find deals i only buy from tigerdirect because i am in california and all other places charge me tax lol http://pcpartpicker.com/ oh and i would not even consider a reference card but to each his/her own.

Lol. It's a pretty damn powerful card still. If he ever wants to overclock more just tell him to completely unlock the voltage (because it's the boost version it's still somewhat capped) and then keep adding to the voltage and see where he can get it to something stable. I recommend not going over 1325MHz just for safety and longevity issues. I have mine set to 1325MHz it can go higher then 1350 for sure but I have killed gpu's by doing this haha.

Decisive answer: If you're not going to overclock go for the 670 with the twin frozr. If you are going to overclock get the 7950 sapphire vapor-x non boost.

With AMD's new drivers they are both on par. With the 670 beating it in some games that are gtx evolved. And then the AMD beats the gtx in AMD evolved games. But the difference is literally 1-2 fps.
