Dont forget that the 480 doesnt have as much room for OC as a 5870 that easily do 1000/1300

One would think they would be mad for waiting but watch and see. In other corners of the web, there are souls anxiously waiting to buy 2 or 3 and are ok with what they already know. People amaze me is all I can say..

With stock cooling probably not, but just remeber just becuase the card runs hot doesn't mean it doesn't oc great the GTX275 OC much better then 4890 on LN2 but likely due to manufacture defects here and there i doubt it will amazingly on something like dry ice or w.e

looks like it

apparently thats the OC

Wow the 480 is drawing More power than a 5970 and load temp is 93C 72% Fan, holy ,Shocked more than what I expected

I think you meant the 485 not the 285 lol ATi transistors density is very high. I think its just the ATi architecture is much more efficient at 40nm since their 4770 experience, nVidia were too lazy since 8800.
No way an nVidia Driver decrease the TDP that much, dont hope to lol

Perhaps but look at the "factory cooler" on the thing. That is a serious piece of engineering and cost for a stock GPU. Chances are they didn't do it to deliver more value to the customer. You will know when they get the 100 series in check because the air cooler will start looking more similar to what we are accustomed to seeing. My guess is late summer.

There will be no 32nm, TSMC is going straight to 28nm... 28nm risk wafers will be some time in Q4 2010... You will be waiting a LONG time.

It is not guaranteed we will even see B1 480s (AKA 485). It would not be realistic to expect 512 core parts at cocks that are capable of matching the 480 core parts for half a year.

We will either see ATI 6000 series in the fall at 40nm, Q1 at 32/28nm if they go with Globfo, or Q2 or so at 28nm with TSMC (if they risk a new arch on a new node immediately).

It is going to be a very boring few months for graphics.

The thing is that now the situation is even worse, that 480 is 7 month late even 8.

i remember reading about tsmc and ati agreeing to an extra year at 40nm since the 32nm would be tough to get in production

i dont think they'll go to Globfo though, whats funny is that Globfo was part of them before

I hope Toms reviewers uses the Cat 10.3a drivers and the latest nVidia drivers to make it fair for both.

There is no way they could have used the 10.3 driver. The Beta was available on the 17th. (A Review , complete testing various games/cards would have started before then) The final just yesterday. There is no way to do a fair comparison using a 'beta' driver. What if there was a radical change in there to help the grey screening, flickering on some models, but it turned out to HURT performance. Something that would be adjusted before 10.3 went final. There is no way a reviewer /tech site could have known that ATI's beta drivers ending up being the same as the final. 10.2 was the 5th driver release for the 5870 I believe, the majority of the games are dialed in , I would hope. its only the newest games, crossfire profiles that benefit from the newest driver releases.

So no 10.3 WHQL? nVidias drivers came After. But how come 10.3 decresing perf. , I get ~4Fps extra in Crysis with a 5850 with 10.3a

I'm sure it will be noted, but when the feature card in a new launch review is being tested, Usually they do use BETA drivers supplied by the manufacturer with the test sample. Because the card is not on the street. So there would be no official driver for a card not yet launched.
