The evidence of this being true seems more apparent now that there aren't any cards anywhere.

oh freaking freakity frak!!!!!!!!!

hope its not true >.<

Those guys are dickheads.... I really want to watch a one minute video of a card sitting idle.

$350 GTX470, $500 GTX 480.

ATI can drop the HD5850 and HD5870 back to MSRP ($280 and 380, IIRC), and make a huge price gap.

My ideal price table for mid-high end...

HD5970~$550
HD5870~$360
HD5850~$250
HD5830~$180
HD5770~$140
HD5750~$100

i just found these prices tucked away in mwave's refurbuished section :http://www.mwave.com/mwave/ViewProductGrid.asp?DPID=BLOUT-REFURB&DPDID=BLOUT-REFURB&PID= :):):)

<<Performance wise, in some test and heavy AA and Anisotropic settings powered with super high resolutions, you will see somewhere between 20 to even 50 percent performance increase over Radeon 5870, but do have in mind that at this settings Fermi, Geforce GTX 480 loses to the dual-GPU Radeon 5970, which will remain the fastest card on market.
In most games Fermi should end up slightly faster than Radeon HD 5870.>>

So, even in tesselation, the 480 cannot surpass the 5970 hence its lower price. If it was at least competing against the 5970, nVidia would price it at 599$.
Let the benchs come hehe HD5970 Vs GTX480

Have to keep in mind that the 5870 2gb version beats the 5870 by 20-50% in some cases at the settings fuad is talking about... those some cases being equal to exactly one case where at those settings crysis is frame buffer starved. It really doesn't mean anything in fact, though I have to wonder if the 5870 2gb or 1gb will be used in reviews...

I don't think anyone was expecting it to match a twin-GPU card. We know it's going to be better than the 5870, the question really is how much are we going to have to pay for this performance boost?

It Has to, since it is released more than 6 months after ATi generation, 5870>~4870X2,Fermi Should >~GTX295 and Fermi Should >~HD5970 which doesnt make sense since a 6 month newer card cannot outperform a 6 month older card, this is if they start selling the 480 soon. This is not counting the 5970 @ its default 5870 clocks btw which brings ~2xOC effect since its a dual-GPU.

The 480 has 1.5Gb, yes the 1Gb buffer is easly filled @ 2560x1600, The 5970 would make use of 2Gb/GPU @ 2560x1600 AA-AF since its made to be used at this resolution.

nVidia should sell the 480 for 449$ if ATi bring their prices down.

GTX480 is reported by FUAD, "Slightly faster in most games", yet it beats the HD5870 a lot when AA/AF/Resolutions are applied. which points to memory. 2GB of HD5850 would be extremely nice.

But only, 'slightly faster in most games', we assume a 5-10% at most. GTX480~$500, HD5870 ~$420. ATI can lower to MSRP for $~380. I doubt anyone would pay $120 for a 10% increase, especially when a manufacturer such as Sapphire can OC their HD5870 and charge another $50 for it, thus matching performance.

Im pretty sure here in Canada the 480 will end up same price as the 5970 lmao When the 5970 came out, I bought it for 630$Ca only because the 5870 was selling for 499$Ca when in stock!!Talk about price gouging, Futureshop here was selling the 4850 for 299$ when I walked in LOL

That's a nice review, but I'd like to see a few more DX11 titles (Metro and AvP).

Nice numbers from the GTX480 in that one. Let's see how later benchmarks show it's performance under more DX11 titles.

Cheers!

Sigh, the site is congested due to the high number of people acessing it lmao
Cant even access the site wow

yuka can you give a brief run down. Just saw the bad company numbers before this happened
"The site is currently down for essential maintenance"
I think nvidia police got them
