I don't know which one i should choose. I can pay 20$ more than the gigabyte and get the 290 which has better performance from the benchmarks that i've seen, but has several problems like overheating and noise levels. I mainly want a card that will be able to max out games for at least another five years and one that will last for a long time without any problems. What do you recommend?

I'm not sure if this plays any particular role in gaming, but don't the Nvidia cards support technologies like Shadowplay and PhysX that the AMD cards don't? Do these make any difference?

Unless you do triple SLI/CrossfireX, you won't be maxing out games 5 years down the road.

I would get the GTX 770 since the r9 290s do get hot so if you don't have good ventilation in your case then the gtx 770 is best.

You gaming at 1080P?

EDIT: Didn't see that the r9 290 = a GTX 780 so yeah get the r9 290. Even if your computer has a little bit of bad airflow, fans 120mm are $20 or less these days.
