Sorry if this has been posted before,
firingsquad.com
shows a good review of the 6800NU, GT, and ultra versions and also pits them against the X800 pro as well as the 5950.

The 6800NU seems to me to be a very good deal in the $300 price range considering it performs slightly better than the $500 5950 at medium resolutions with medium AA/AF.
The difference between the GT and the Ultra seems to be minimal at best which makes me lean toward it as my next purchase.

well if ya liking playing with AA and AF turned on full, gt is better for ya. the NU only has 128 mb ram so its going to fall short when they are turned on.

What's the <b><font color=green>AMD Mobile Athlon 64</font color=green></b> overclocking potential? <b>It's huge!</b> Humm... Maybe not that huge...

K well im gonna buy the 6800 GT. I think its alot better than the x800 PRO.

Athlon 2500-M @ 2.64 GHZ
BBA AIW 9700 PRO
512MB 2.5 Mushkin
80 GB WD HD 8MB cache

well im gonna buy the 6800 GT. I think its alot better than the x800 PRO.
The other question : Who will want to buy a Geforce 6800 Ultra? The GeForce 6800 GT is nearly as fast in most games and will be cheaper.

Ehhh....once again these are all pre-release numbers without WHQL drivers I am assuming. When a review site gets a retail card in their hands using currently avaliable drivers then I'll start believing these benchmarks. At least we know these are the speeds youre gonna get out of your X800PRO if you bought one today.

Nothing like a 2 month delay to garner anticipation and let people speculate over reviews using unavaliable cards and drivers.

Do you know what WHQL authentication is?

Its for bug testing and compatiblity with other drivers and devices, its not about performance or cheats.

Rumor has it that the 6800 Ultra will be 8% slower than the x800XT

don't think so.

I had a conference call with crytek this morning about the 1.2 patch there is a nice performance boost with it for the gf 6 line. Now take that into concideration with ok lets say the 6800 is 8% slower in Far Cry. Now in most of the reviews with drivers .11 the two cards were neck and neck or the xt was about 1% faster and don't forget how badly it got crushed in all ogl games. The 6800 did loose in Pain Killer and Tombraider. And in half life 2 the 6800 is better.

So now I question the 8% performance difference.

Also bare in mind without dx9c the .34 divers are actually slower then the .11 or .12, which is not much but about 1%.

Not sure if you guys have seen this yet but this morning Bestbuy.com put up the 6800 GT and said it was on sale for 299.99 plus free shipping:) The link was up for about 5 hours and pulled this morning.
I managed to get email confirmation and order number. I even called the best buy hotline to make sure it was correct and was told you have that product the 6800 GT BFG brand locked in at $299.99 plus i upgraded to overnight shipping for $6. The order was a preorder which states that the item will ship between 7-1-04 and 7-7-04 according to the website, my email, and the customer service rep.
I tried finding fine print that would enable them to get out of this deal and their policy of preorders is listed here at: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?j=1&id=cat12076&type=page&faqID=1054508892648&h=#3
sorry don't know how to make it a clicky.
Their policy states on preorders if the price on preorder's goes up you get the lower or the 2 prices and if the price goes down you also get the lower of the 2 price
I don't know of a way they can get out of selling the cards for this price now. Anyone know any way they could go back on this deal?

Dont worry about them getting out of it. If it was a mistake then they will eat the cost of the cards that got preordered. I worked there selling computers for 2 years, if they give you any grief then just call the corporate office and explain to them (get irate if you have to) and you'll get your car for $299 =)

The ultra is on there for $499 right now (pre order)

I use to work their also for 3 years at the store in Hickory, N.C. so I know the managers there and I could get them to help me out if needed
Just curious if you worked at any stores in N.C or S.C since I
know a few people that worked there espicially in the computer department since that was also my department.

Why are you so focused on Crytek????

You do know that Farcry was just meant to be a demonstration before it was sold as a retail game right?

What games are coming out soon that use the same engine? You can't possibly put that much faith into one game can you?

HL2? It's not out either.

hmm what games are coming out using Doom 3 or the Source engine?

I know Id has over 20 sales on thier d3 engine and the source engine has alot more. Crytek doesn't have that many but we are one of thier licenees and developement wise the cry engine is a lot faster then any of the other mentioned engines.

Please Far Cry wasn't a demonstration. They were working on some dinosaur educational program before Far Cry. Which was dropped before they started working on Far Cry. I was following the Cry engine from 1999 because in all honesty it was the only one that would have compaired to my engine in flexiablilty, performancewise there is no question.

demo release is supposed to be for next week but looks like that is going to be pushed till late next month. Still ironing out bugs. Then its just making all the levels, which most of the artwork is done. Depending on how well it runs on the gf 6800 series and the x800 6 months but we have to find a publisher too.

so what exactly do YOU do at this gaming company?

I'm the ceo and lead engine programmer for my engine (render core is done waiting for other to do tools and add in physics and ai). And over all team management for Terra Firma: Havok

OH, interesting :>

how old are you?

yeah, but which card will your game play faster on? I'm betting the ATI card, whichever card is out at the time, will crush the nvidia card, to put it mildly.

and, on to another point...is your game even gonna be worth anything? like if I sold a copy of your game could I buy enough gas to ride an ant's motorcycle around the inside of a cheerio?

CryTech started out with making a tropical Island demo for a show (don't remember which one exactly) late 90's or 2000. I believe they did it for intel but it can also have been Nvidia. As you have good contacts with CryTech, check it with them. I got my info from some gaming magazines. As they were very pleased with the result they decided to make a game out of it. Originally they called it X-Isle i think and it had dinosaurs in it. They switched stories later on and FarCry was born. The X-Isle idea with dinosaurs and all is now continued by a german mod team using FarCry (when they release the sdk). You can find a link to it on the FarCry webpages.

Either my info is completely wrong (but I do not think so because I have it from multiple sources) or this is correct and then I wonder why you don't know about it, given your CryTech connection? Or were you just confused by the name changes?

This is not meant to discredit anyone but I thought it was public knowledge and I'm wondering about the confusion that you introduce with regard to the subject now. I'm open to any alternate explanations and can give references to my public sources (partly in dutch).
