Question GPU and monitor compatibility ?

Howdy,

I have the following:

Monitor: ASUS VG278 (might be VG278HE)
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT

The problem is I have the monitor connected to the GPU by HDMI cable. Via HDMI the monitor can only output 1080p@60hz. (you can see that here right at the bottom).
With my previous GPU I could connect via DVI-D and run at 144hz.

Is there any solution to get 144hz with my new GPU ?
Would a connector from the GPU (HDMI/DisplayPort) to monitor DVI-D work?
It might be a possibility since the DVI-D monitor output supports 144hz, but maybe that would be lost by the conversion cable?

Oooo that looks good. These cables are fairly expensive I don't want to make a mistake. Is this one appropriate?

Yes. Are you sure it's not worth just getting a newer monitor for that price?

Depends on the monitor I'd go for. Not sure if I want a 4k@144hz or a 1080p@240hz.
1080p@240hz seems to be <$500.
4k@144hz seems to be around $1k.
