Hi all,

I want to install my graphics card into the second PCI slot as part of my final build I want the clearance space above to add a model on top for the final look.

I'm using the ASUS Maximus Hero Z690 Motherboard and it says:

+++
Intel® 12th Gen Processors*
2 x PCIe 5.0 x16 slots (support x16 or x8/x8 modes)**
Intel® Z690 Chipset***
1 x PCIe 4.0 x16 slot (supports x4, x4/x4 modes)
* Please check PCIe bifurcation table in Chapter 1.
** When ROG Hyper M.2 card is installed on PCIEX16(G5)_1, PCIEX16(G5)_2 will run x8 only and if ROG Hyper M.2 card is installed on PCIEX16(G5)_2, PCIEX16(G5)_1 will run x8 only.
*** Supports Intel® Optane Memory H Series on PCH-attached PCIe slot.

+++

I would read the above as either of the 2 PCIe 5 slots can be used basis x16? I constantly read that you should install your GPU on the top slot for x16, but would really appreciate if anyone has any experience with this and/or this motherboard in particular and could educate me a bit!

I'm using a Zotac Trinity Nvidia 3080ti if that info helps at all.

Thanks :)
