[SOLVED] GPU not being detected windows 10 - dell 7559 laptop

Hey guys!

I've been running my dell inpiron 15 7559 for almost 3 years. for most of this time it has been a good companion, but lately i've been running into various issues, supposedly due to a virus, so i decided to do a fresh install of windows 10.

Now, my laptop is running a i7 6700HQ and a dedicated nvidia gtx 960m 4gb. the gpu was in perfect condition before the fresh install, but after it my laptop has been unable to detect it. I have tried updating to the latest bios, and tried several old ones aswell, all to no avail. I have tried downloading and installing nvidia's official drivers for my gpu, but the installation always fails as it fails to detect an active 960m. I have browsed through device manager as well, and the only display adapter is shows is the intel HD ones (previously there used to be 2, an intel HD 530 and the nvidia 960m). I have also updated all of chipset drivers and pcie controllers from dell's driver wbesites, and even tried this CMD fix to show inactive devices, all to no avail.

This is the main device I use for work (mostly heavy photoshop and premiere) work, so it is really important that i get this back up and running as soon as possible, so request your aid in helping me fix it.

For clarification I am running a windows 10 20h2, I have tried 1804 as well as 1909 but neither detect the gpu

have you tried the display drivers on the laptop website? most laptops have a support page and often they will have display drivers. They may not be the newest but they should work with the cards in laptop.

If the drivers can't identify the card it can mean the card is the problem and not the drivers. It is a sign card isn't working.
