Question GPU (RTX 2060) loud and hot on DirectX 11

Hi,

I just upgraded my GTX 960 to PNY RTX 2060 and I'm noticing some weird behavior:

The card can be quiet and fairly cool (approx. 60 C°) when playing some games, but gets loud and hot (approx. 75 C°) with others, e.g:

• quiet with The Division 2, Assassin's Creed Odyssey or Shadow of the Tomb Raider 🙂
• loud with Quantum Break or Ghost Recon Wildlands. 😕

All those games are fairly new and demanding, but what sets them apart is the first bunch runs on DX12, while the latter on DX11 – could this be a reason for such a discrepancy in the noise and thermals ❓

Also, is that normal behavior and can I do anything to make it better when running games on DX11 ❓

Would other brands of RTX 2060 perform similarly or better in the same scenario ❓

The Division 2, AC Odyssey, and SOTR are all CPU demanding and can max out a 4 thread CPU.

Your poor I5 is likely maxing out and causing your gpu not to reach 100%. This will obviously quiet your GPU.

Thank you for the reply, that makes sense.

I managed to "quiet it down" by undervolting the GPU a bit.
