Hi everyone,
since cards price are starting to make sense, I'm planning to upgrade or maybe replace my old rig
currently i'm running 2 system:
i5-3570k (Running stock, yeah it was silly me back then with the dream to learn OCing)
GTX 650 (not the Ti version) / running at 1366 x 768
Z77X-D3H
2x4 kit 1866 DDR3 Corsair Vengeance
Seasonic G-750
PNY SSD 480gb (i can't remember the model but I guess its their entry-level ssd, I bought the cheapest one back then)

So with all of that in mind, I do have a few questions :

1. I'm planning to "freshen up" my old setup, I want to keep the cost as low as possible, but with longevity in priority (I want to keep using it as long as possible). Is there any part of my old PC that I can keep? (I'm planning to keep the power supply unit)

2. I'm planning to play at 1080p and 144Hz monitor, for CS:GO and Forza Horizon 5 (with FH5 I keep the settings at High/Ultra), right now my choices are either go with a MSI RTX 2060 VENTUS 12G OC RTX2060 (around USD372) or MSI RTX3060 VENTUS 2X 12G OC DDR6 3060 RTX DDR6 12GB (around USD465)
I do understand that my old trusty ivy bridge processor is no longer in a good shape to support either RTX 2060 or RTX 3060, but if I do really need to replace the whole RIG, I want to buying parts one by one, not all at once

3. Or should I just keep using my laptop (yes, right now I game and work on laptop), and just save money until my laptop cant take it anymore ?
Current Laptop :
ROG GL503GE
FHD 120 FPs monitor
i7-8750H (Repasted to Conductonaut)
GTX 1050 Ti (Repasted to Conductonaut)
Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2666 MHz
WD Black SN750 NVME
WD Blue 2.5' SSD

Constantly running FH5 at 25-40fps with high setting at FHD, and occasionally below 20fps
CS:GO runs better tho, at 100+ fps, all low setting

Thankyou

If the current laptop does what you need, why buy anything?

Because you cannot resist upgrading your desktop? If that is true, then you would have to upgrade the motherboard, CPU, and RAM to do anything meaningful. That might be as low as 300 dollars in the USA. Preferably another 100 or 200.

Where are you? Boston? Borneo?

I don't know how useful it would be to upgrade ONLY the graphics card.

Most would tell you the PSU is suspect if it is as old as the CPU...circa 10 years?

You say you want to buy "one by one"...pretty tough to do. Any of the 3 primary parts in a significant upgrade (motherboard, CPU, RAM) is useless without the other 2. You can't go far if you choose to keep any of the existing 3.

1)Storage.
2)I'm not sure what the question for this one is.
3)Yes.

IMO - and not including the laptop here - you waited too long between upgrades. The whole rig needs upgrading.
Plus, the 2 titles you mention go in opposite directions(sort of). CSGO = entirely cpu bound, the gpu can be a potato, and it could still do great. FH5 = gpu, with a little bit of cpu.

Yep the laptop part is the reason why I want to keep the cost as minimal as possible. I just want to make use of my old PC as my home gaming PC, and only use my laptop for gaming when I'm outside.

And the card pricing, I'm not sure about the card price in the future can be as near as MSRP if the crypto rises again.

I see, so theres nothing I can reuse for building a new PC then. Thanks

(Oh yeah, Instead of Borneo, I'm on the island below it)

I see, so my old PC can't be helped then.

and as for number 2, what I'm trying ask is, if in the end I'm planning to discard my old PC and build a new one, should I get a RTX 2060 or RTX 3060 with that price difference. I decided that FHD is good enough for me, and I can't tell any difference for frame rate above 144Hz.
Does RTX 3060 gonna be an overkill for FHD 144Hz screen ?

Thanks

It'd be better to upgrade the rest of your pc before getting a GPU, if you slap a decent GPU in there you'll bottleneck that poor 3rd gen i5

RTX 3060.
No, it is not overkill. IMO, 3070 is where it starts to get overkill for FHD.

Very well then, im gonna get the 8gb 3060 ti (confusingly the non ti version have 12gig of vram) , maybe when the 4000 release, hopefully the price may drop a bit more. Thanks.

two suggestions,

3770k
2060 or 6600 as a performance ceiling

you might be able to find something older and used gtx 980 or rx 570

this will get you way above 100fps in csgo, a lot closer to 200

I will consider both options tho, either upgrade my old 3570k to 3770k (cost me around 60usd for an used 3770k), while building a new one from scratch gonna cost me around 1360usd with specs like this (monitor excluded)

Core i7-12700
MSI RTX 3060 Ti 8GB
Corsair DDR4 3600MHz C18 2x8 kit
MSI B660M-A WIFI DDR4
WD Black SN700 250 GB
WD Blue 1TB 7200 RPM
Corsair RM750x

Thanks for the insights

im pretty sure the 60 dollars for the 3770k paired with like I mentioned a 2060 or 6600 is a better option, that platform is old but it still games as long as you dont need 100 fps in all modern games
