In this group, I'd think the one way to handle a duel would be:

150 points. No mental disadvantages. No exotic advantages or disads.
No points for IQ below 10.

Just choose a TL, get an impartial judge to referee the match, and have
at it.

Hehe! That sounds like an interesting idea. Oh, and by the way, has
SJG provided a full list of upcoming publications -- you know, the
"one hardcover a month", scheduled three years out?

It would be nice to see what they're planning on re-doing in the next
few years, though I suppose that could cut into sales of their
remaining 3rd edition books.

Instead of doing something poignant like buying you a one-way ticket,
I'll instead apply the money to my boat fund. That both protects my
investment (since you'd could just tear up the ticket) and allows me
to visit you in comfort and convenience (and with surprise).

Provided I don't forget this incident, I'll be seeing you later.

Will they let you shoot at a human living target in the barracks? I guess
the training is more realistic than one would suppose, nowadays.

Looks like somebody flubbed his Savoir-Faire roll.

You challenged, he accepted. As the challenged party, he has the right
to set the conditions of the duel, as long as they're reasonable.

I think that easily-obtainable weapons used at a weapons range intended
for said weapons is quite reasonable...

They should go to Florida. Dueling's legal there, now.

But for something a bit more constructive, I was thinking that it
might be interesting to put together an Olympian package.

Morph 100 points
Terror 30 points
Unkillable 2 100 points
Warp (Blind +50%, Warp Jump +10%) 160 points Some but not all
Olympians have Extra Carrying Capacity.
Jumper 100 (Warp Jump +10%) 110 points
Wild Talent 10 (Focused -20%) 160 points
Doesn't Breathe 20 points
Pressure Support 15 points
Vacuum Support 5 points
Unaging 15 points
Invisibility to Electromagnetic Vision (Switchable +10% Can Carry
Light Encumberance Objects +20%, Affects Machines +50%,
Substantial Only -10%) 68 points
See Invisible 15 points
Magery 3 35 points

Total: 673 points.

You don't have to record disads that *everybody* in the game has.

Unless I misunderstood his meaning, the location was at a military
base on an island far out in the Pacific Ocean... Did you honestly
believe they'd just open the doors and let us in to fight? No, his
suggestion seems a wee bit shy of "reasonable" to me.

I, on the other hand, suggested that just about any spot in the
continental U.S. would be acceptable. Such would be much easier for
most anyone, assuming it's not some wacky location like a mountaintop
or the middle of a desert.

Booking passage to Hawaii is basically the easiest way for him to get
rid of me without endangering himself. All he'd have to do is inform
the police of this entire thread, and swear out a complaint.

No, his suggestion was definately NOT reasonable, it was a trap.

The Shoot First law.

resorting to the use of deadly force. The bill, signed into law
Tuesday by Gov. Jeb Bush (R), will allow people in Florida -- without
fear of criminal prosecution or civil action -- to shoot, stab or
pummel to death anyone who causes them to fear for their lives outside
of their homes, on the street, or in their cars or businesses. It's
called the "Castle Doctrine," meaning your body, not just your home,
is your castle and that you can stand your ground and meet force with
force virtually anywhere if you reasonably believe injury or death
might occur.

I was of course kidding about legalising dueling which would be a more
extreme interpretation of the law than would be likely in practise.
But of course both participants in a duel could reasonably feel
themselves to be in peril.

The "focus" of an Olympian's Wild Talent would of course be defined by
what they were god "of". Thus, without training, Ares would be able
to use any weapon or military skill regardless of tech level, Artemis
could use any nature skills (and more importantly nature spells),...

Schofield Barracks is the primary army base in Hawaii. So named
because unlike Fort Schafter, it wasn't built for a defensive purpose.
The name stuck because it was traditional.

East Range is a huge training area featuring knife-edge ridges, deep
valleys, and some hellacious hills. All tropical rain forest. Great
place for a stalk'n'hunt.

These days, we use the MILES system for training. Great improvment
over the wax bullets of WWII!
