HD Audio Connector Problem

Good day, everyone. I ask for your help, it's about the hd audio connector of my pc case. There's this small wire that is disconnected. I just noticed it when I opened the case, I didn't pull it, in fact I didn't even touch it, only after I saw it unplugged. Just around 30 minutes before opening the case, I used the top-front panel audio ports and they were fine.

So my questions are, 1) How important is that little wire? 2) Will it cause shorting in the future? 3) Is it alright to leave it like that? Here's a photo of what I'm talking about and I'm sorry for the dumb focus. Thank you for your time.

Edit: I had my cousin test the PC and the ports were perfectly working but if you could, please still answer the questions.

From the photo I suspect that the wire is NOT needed. If I see it correctly, the unconnected wire is 2 pins over from the only position on the connector that does NOT have a wire in it, and in the same row of holes. (The connector has two rows of five positions each, with one of them filled in and no wire.) The filled-in hole position is #8, and the wire in the same row but two positions over is #4.

The mobo header for front panel audio often is capable of functioning in either of two configurations, and you can set this option in BIOS Setup according to the instructions that came with your CASE. That's because the wiring of the front panel jacks is different, depending on which system the case makers used. And of course, they will have wired the cable from the case front to the mobo connector to match what they installed. The fancier version of this is called HD Audio and uses all nine possible wire positions in that connector. The simpler version that is used more commonly is called AC97 audio, and it does NOT use that Position #4 wire for anything, so no connection to it is required. My bet is that your case uses this AC97 system and that's why they left that wire at the connector UNconnected - their front panel jacks do not use it.
