Bought a 3.5 HDD of 2 TB, which I partitioned up as an NTFS. Then I put it into a desktop W10 pc, but there it is identified as “Local disc” (but drive letter is assigned). Found it in disk management and tried to format it again, but get the message that formatting cannot start. Tried to delete the partition, but get the message that “the drive is not ready”. Ran disk part, but when I run list disk, it does not appear at all. If I try in cmd to switch to f:, I get the message that “the drive is not ready”.
Have also tried another W10 laptop, but same thing there. Tested with SATA and USB 3 (cables ok).
What can be done to partition it again?

How did you test a 3.5 inch drive in a laptop; is that where you tried it on USB only? Where did you partition it to start with, and why? (Instead of just partitioning it in the machine you were putting it in.) Can that previous machine still work with it? Is this a brand new drive from a reputable source?

NTFS is not partition but file format, Disk and partitions could also be MBR or GPT, GPT on 2TB and up. It can also be formatted as active or local disk.
So, what exactly did you do to it. ?
Try using another program like Mini tool partition wizard and also check health with Crystal Disk Info, SMART table.
