Neither does HDMI. In fact they use the same pinout because HDMI is a derivative of DVI. The audio is just carried on the video stream. One of the advantages of them being related is that the same controller can be used for both signals and just operate in DVI mode or HDMI mode depending on the device attached. In fact the HDMI specification requires this. So pretty much any device in the last 15 years or so will support DVI devices on HDMI ports, and HDMI devices on DVI ports, with sound and everything.

yes monitor does have audio output. when i plug headphones cable it transfers the audio to headphones. so does it mean it will just the same if i plug a 3.5mm audio cable from mobo to monitor ?
what about gtx 760 ?
DVI spec is not relevant when using HDMI signaling, which is what is used when connected to a HDMI display. We refer to the HDMI spec, which does support audio.
Yes, but a spec compliant DVI port does not. The addition of audio is a non-standard extension.
Not strictly true, like I said, any graphics card in the last 15+ years with DVI ports can be used for HDMI transmission, but they fully meet the DVI spec's requirements as well, and thus are compliant with the DVI specification. I think what you meant is that DVI ports are only sure to be compliant with the DVI spec and therefore are not guaranteed to have these additional features. Which is true, but being compliant with the DVI spec doesn't preclude these capabilities, so it's not correct to say that compliant DVI devices don't support this, or that devices supporting it are non-compliant. And the reality is that all graphics cards in the last 15+ years will support this, as I said. So no need to be cagey about whether it might work or not
so the main reason for the hdmi to dvi adapter is that one of the fan of my 760 stopped working. its been running for more than 10 years. so im thinking about changing the fans as a last resort ( buying them from aliexpress and shipping takes time, where i live and theres money problem ) btw do i need to do anything gpu bios after cleaning/changing fans/re applying thermal paste ? or will it work just like how mobo works ?

I used to run a 4K 60 Hz display at full HDMI 2.0 bandwidth (with audio as well, by the way) from my RX 480's DVI port with a passive adapter, and before that I had audio through DVI to HDMI on my GTX 780 Ti and my GTX 580 before that. I think support for this goes back to the GTX 200 series.
