[SOLVED] HDMI GPU to DVI-D Monitor. Is it possible ?

I am looking to buy a RTX 2060 which has only Display Ports and HDMI.
My old second monitor has DVI-D and VGA.
Before i used to try and do VGA to DVI with a simple "non active pin adapter" but that didnt work since VGA is analog im guessing.
So. Would making my HDMI signal from my GPU to DVI-D with a simple pin adapter work ?

Should work using either HDMI to DVI-D adapter or cable. We are using Displayport to VGA for old LCD monitors at work. Don't see why your connection should be different, still staying Digital and not to analog.

Are you using "Active" adapters for VGA since vga is analog or are you using 1 like the one in the picture ?
Because normal pin only adapters like this shouldn't work from what I heard ?

That active/passive applies to displayport to the conversion. HDMI doesn't to my knowledge. That said, it's a small DP cable to a small box with VGA output on other side.

Yeah the small box actively transfers the digital to analog. And its not simply a pin adapter.

Yes, being DP that's required to be active/passive. Not sure how things work in HDMI world on this without a bit of research.

You can convert between HDMI and DVI-D using passive adapters; they use the same exact electrical pin-outs so the signals are interchangeable.

Adding to gamerk316's reply,

HDMI to DVI works passively and vice versa.

HDMI to DP works passively and vice versa.

DP to DVI works passively.

DVI or VGA to DP requires active adapters.
