I'm on day one of research for a headphone and amp combo and feeling a little overwhelmed between all the technical jargon and a lack of a way to hear the difference in person.
Just looking for some insight and recommendations. It would be much appreciated.

Budget: ~$300 (Combined total for both headphones and amp)
System Sound: MSI Z270 PC Mate onboard sound with a Realtek driver (No sound card)
Primary Focus: - Bass Heavy Music (listening, not production)
- External amp setup
Secondary Uses: Movies, gaming.

Extra info: From what I've read so far it looks like I need an amp(possibly an external sound card combo) and should be looking at open ended high ohm headphones since I'm not worried about noise cancellation and want to focus on bass output/quality.
After looking into amps is where I start to get lost, I'm really not sure if I need one with a built in sound card, or just an amp for the motherboard's onboard sound.

Afterthoughts: Should I even worry about an amp, or just get a low ohm headphone?
My audio quality seems fine as is, I really just want bass heavy headphones for listening to music late into the night when I turn my sub woofer off.

Some good bass heavy headphones in or at least close to your budget.

Philips Fidelio X2 HR - Currently dirt cheap at around $115 on Amazon. No amp required. Open back.

Massdrop x Meze 99 Noir. A $310 Meze 99 Classic with a different finish for $200. No amp required. Closed back.

Beyerdynamic DT770. Real sub bass here and one of the best bass headphones in the price range. Some people find the Beyerdynamic mid-fi line ( 770, 880 and 990 ) to be 'bright' or 'hot' in the treble. Amp dependent on specific model. Closed back. Comfort.

Massdrop x Beyerdynamic DT 177X Go. A step up...

Massdrop x Fostex TH-X00. A step up in refinement from everything else I listed and the best bass cannons under $1000. I like them so much I have both the Mahogany ( more V shaped ) and the Ebony ( more neutral and my favorite headphone ). These are over your stated price range but they're available used. Closed back. Comfort varies. I don't have a problem with them except the leather pads get sticky when it's hot.
