Question Help Choosing a GPU for my First PC

Hi, so I currently have a gaming laptop I got originally for school and gaming that has a 1080ti in it but am now trying to build a pc, I've looked into diff gpu's like the 30 series and the 40 series that to my understanding comes out later this year but not sure what to go for, I'm looking for a pc that can run pretty much any game at preferably around 120 fps, should I go for one of the 30 series like the 3080ti or just wait for the 40 series to come out I'd have no issue with camping out to get it if needed with some friends for the 40 series if it were the better option

1080p is fine with me but 4k would def be nice as well so for now lets say 4k, budget isn't much of an issue either as long as the gpu isn't over 2k lmao

I think the 3080 is still one of the best bang for the buck cards, specifically if you get an older non 12gb card. Won't always be able to hit 120 at 4k, but def will at 1080p and 1440p.

In regards to the 3080 whats the diff between the older non 12gb card and the new one, I didn't know there were 2 diff ones

As you crank up settings, it requires more and more video ram to house the video assets.

In some extreme cases, 8 or 10 might not be enough and it will limit performance, but these cases are likely rare. Most games will get nowhere near the limit.

More directly the 3080 12GB is slightly faster. It has the extra bus width that the 10GB was missing and has a slightly higher core count. (8704 vs 8960) and one extra MB of cache, and slightly more RT and Tensor cores. But for all that it consumes a little more power and has a lower base clock speed (though that can be safely ignored, the boost will pretty much take care of that)
