Hi everyone,

I hope you're doing well. I'm encountering a frustrating issue with my Corsair iCUE H170i ELITE LCD, and I'd appreciate any assistance or advice you can offer.

For the past year, I had no problems with my setup, which included an i9 10900k and a budget Asus PRIME B460M-K motherboard. During this time, I didn't use a Y splitter, connecting everything to two USB 2 ports.

Recently, I decided to upgrade my configuration with an i9 14900k and an Asus ROG Maximus Z790 Hero EVA-02 Edition motherboard. Since this upgrade, I've been facing the infamous Corsair triangle of death issue.

Here's a summary of what happened:

  1. After replacing the old motherboard and CPU, I connected everything to the new board. Upon powering up, a red triangle appeared immediately after pressing power on button, without even reaching the OS.
  2. I installed the OS, performed Windows updates, and installed the iCUE software. In iCUE, I could see that the LCD was detected, showing a preview with temperature information. However, the physical display showed the red triangle.
  3. Attempting a forced update through iCUE of LCD display briefly resolved the issue, showing a temperature of 31°C and animation for about 3 seconds before freezing.
  4. Rebooting the PC didn't solve the problem. It was still ctucked at 31c. After I disconnected PSU wall cable for about 5 minutes, and turned on PC, triangle was on the show again.
  5. I tried various troubleshooting steps, including disconnecting and reconnecting all wires, factory resetting the BIOS, and reinstalling Windows, but the problem persisted. It only works couple of seconds when i force update in ICUE, and after that it freezes eather on 0c or on current temperature reading.
  6. Notably, on the first boot after installing the new parts, the system indicated that there was no fan detected on the fan port. Although the cable was correctly placed, restarting the PC multiple times and recconecting FAN connector eventually allowed me to proceed without the error.

I'm at a loss for what to do next. Is there a specific setting in the BIOS for USB ports that I should check? Could the fan detection issue be related to the LCD problem? Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help!

2| Where did you source the installer for the OS? Installed OS in offline mode?
3| Did you manually install all drivers and apps? In an elevated command?
4| BIOS version for your motherboard?
2- I dowloaded windows directly from microsoft (Windows 11 Installation Media). Firstly I installed it in offline mode (skiped unskipable no network screen), and now, second time I installed it with network (using USB network adapter, and removing it after finishing).
3- I installed some drivers manually, for example pheripherial drivers, and ICUE driver, with elevated privilegies.
4- I downloaded and installed latest version available of bios for this motherboard "ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO EVA-02 BIOS 1801"

I just came back from second reainstalation and from complete tear down and reaseble of PC, but red triangle is stil there.

I captured it with camera this strange behaviour, here is link, I shared it with iCloud:

Red Triangle is pretty common from what I've seen and I honestly think it's a combination of their crap ICUE software and their commander core going bad.

I have the RGB version and my dumbnuts block works right until I get into Windows. Then it either turns off, flickers or chooses it's own color.

When I searched both our issues came up and I don't recall ever seeing a solution once you get the issue.

Great AIOs hindered by crap software (and CC). You could try another commander core but I doubt it will fix it (or if it does, long term).
