I have two PC's (laptops) - both running WinXP Pro (though not same
'version') and they have been networked fine until yesterday.
Now, all of a sudden, and without making any changes, one of the two PC's no
longer includes itself in the network!
The two PC's are XYZ-B and XYZ-C. They are both in the MSHOME workgroup
and are the only two pc's in the whole network. They both have file shares
defined. They both do *not* use "simple" file sharing. They can both ping
each other, themselves and the router. They can both still access the
internet.
I have now redefined the network connection using the "Network Setup
Wizard" on both PC's a few times over. But no luck. I also tried switching
off both the Windows and Zone Alarm firewalls - but still no luck.
From C, I can see C's own shares, and I can see B - but apparently B has no
shares available. Also, from C, I can no longer detect the shared printer
attached to B.
From B, I can see only "Mshome" in the browse for networked folders. There
is no expansion available for this - ie. *neither* PC even shows up within
MSHOME, not even B itself!!!
I have also checked that "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks"
is installed in both PC's LAN configs, and double checked the network and
internet connection configs in Network Connections.
Does anyone have any ideas for troubleshooting this? Or know what's wrong?
..... better still the solution?
(other than switch to Linux that is)
