Help Replaced Soyo MB with DFI MB

Help needed!!

I just replaced my motherboard, cpu, and memory. I now can boot, the system
keeps rebooting. Is there a way to install drives for new motherboard? I
believe the system is trying to boot using drivers from old motherboard.
The old motherboard is by Soyo, and the new motherboard is by DFI. The
chipsets are different. Any suggestions? All are welcomed. I tried doing
a repair Windows XP install, no luck. Is there a way to disable "reboot on
hardware error"?

I do not know if XP can recover from such a sitiuation specificaly, but
if everything else fails (read the whole e-mail before proceeding), you
might try booting to that fake emulation of DOS via the Windows XP
installation CD (configure BIOS to boot from CD and leave the Windows XP
CD in the drive during boot).

Then delete your windows directory and all system files from the root
directory on drive C. The idea is to delete the registry.

Now reinstall Windows XP from your installation CD.


The problem exists in that things like motherboard hardware isn't
exactly plug-and-play for windows, and windows looks for it while
installing and never removes it again. And while it may seem possible to
simply go into diagnostic mode, remove all the old hardware from the
device manager and search for new hardware, that has prooved to not be
very successfull.


Good luck anyhow and I hope you'll be able to rescue system without
having to delete too much innocent data.

Odds are high you need the correct IDE driver added. See following for

First of all, try not cross-posting quite so much.
Secondly, if you change the motherboard in a computer running XP then you
HAVE to reformat the harddrive and do a fresh install of XP. Once you have
the motherboard installed, boot off the XP CD and follow the directions to
reformat the harddrive and THEN install XP.

Then how do you explain my having done it a half dozen times without
reformatting?
