HELP SETTING UP SMALL NETWORK

Hello everyone, I have come across this page alot of times via google search results. I am to set up a 10-12 Node network for Computer classes and a cafe. I am suppose to recommend the specs of the server, workstation,router, cabling etc. I am also to recommend the best software. I have never done this before so I am asking for some advice, recommendations,guidelines, resources etc Anything that can help me to set up this network.

Well for starters I would like to know:
1. Server hardware specs to host file server, activedirectory services
2. workstation specs

1. Those are trivial workloads, so purchase whatever fits in your budget.
2. Again, more details. The specs for a person performing word processing and spreadsheets is MUCH different than for a 3D graphics artist or video editing.
