Help with creating a wireless network.

I recently just got a new laptop which means wireless basically lol Anyways, I've tried to set up a wireless network on my desktop but I dunno what I'm doing wrong. I have a linksys router and the only network connection my laptop can "see" is the router. I know this may be a vague help/description but please help.
