I've just brought an fop 38. I've removed the thermal grease with my nail and some nailpolish remover, and applied some other thermal grease which looks like radio shack stuff. Well, the problem is that the second clip pops off when ever I try to install it on my mobo. I've used a flathead to do this and haven't applied the pressure on the end of the clip, but a little bit inside as it was described on a fop38 installation guide on some other hardware site. I've put back (twice) the end of the clip on to the clip with out much difficulty. Is this a defective unit or is there some way around it. thanx 4 ur hlp.

Don't try this one unless you have the time/patience to be careful.
Those 4 little 'protective' rubber pads on the cpu die really perturb me. I hacked them off with a rusty razor blade, twice.
Anyway, if you do that, you can seat the heatsink right up against the cpu without any interference. The problem is you can (fairly easily) crack the cpu die. You'll have to bend the clip, so it's not quite as 'bent', which will exert less pressure on the actual cpu die. You'll end up getting a better contact with the cpu, but you must be very careful. When you go to attach the clip to the socket, make sure you keep one hand on the heat sink all the time so it doesn't 'lean' and chip off a corner/side of the cpu. I use a small screwdriver to attach the the second side of the clip to the socket. Just push down until it snaps, then hold the motherboard up to the light so you can see under the heatsink. If it looks like there's good contact, you're in business.
