[SOLVED] Help with rebuilding PC, which parts to keep?

So long story short, I messed up. I used nail polish remover instead of propynol to clean CPU and spilled some on motherboard and the socket. My computer can not boot, as in all the lights and fans go on but the screen says no signal. My plan is to switch out both the CPU and the motherboard. I don't know much about computers but my guess is that it didn't affect other components. Please someone verify that my thinking process is correct. Don't want to make 2 mistakes.

Before buying a new mobo, check the mobo support specs and check the ram compatibility.
Make sure your old ram will work on the newer or semi use preowned mobo you might pick up.
Keep the hard drive and video card if both are not too dated or showing signs of dying out soon.

Difficult to answer without knowing what you have now but CPU may OK.
