im looking to get a new pair of speakers and honestly have no idea which to pick. ill mostly be gaming, listening to music and watching movies privately. im not an audiophile so im not looking for the top of the line but definitely something worthwhile.

these are some of the speakers i was looking at

altec lansing VS2621
Logitech Z323
SonicGear Evo 3 Platinum
Panasonic SC-PT75
Creative Inspire T3130

any of them passable?

I've been using Logitech exclusively for some time now. Sound is definitely important to me, so I have a set of (comparable to) Z5500 400Watts.
So it depends on your needs. I wouldn't expect most people to need speakers like mine.

My wife has the (comparable to) Z506, which is a nice 5.1 system for 75watts. We got hers for $75 w/free shipping, quite a nice deal.

Can't speak to the others specifically, but I think for a small room the Z323's are sufficient. But I would consider paying a bit more for the 523's or stepping up to the 5.1 system for a larger space.

I've actually found some decent budget speakers from Cyber acoustics. I think creative speakers are a step just below logitech, they try to put more sound in a lot smaller package typically. Altec lansings are known for poor shielding and overall crappy sound. I'd stay away, even if they offered "quality" sound.

are you talking about the X530?

and i just realized that the panasonic is a complete stereo system, not a computer speaker set, isnt that supposed to be better?

@ 4745454b: they did, but where i live there i dont have access to any of those models

Well honestly, for me none of those are passable for me, I'm a true audiophile so for me they are a no. However it depends how much you are willing to spend and whats your most important aspect of sound, really deep bass or better and smoother sound.

well im now thinking more along the lines of maybe a sound card + a headset like the sennheiser hd555 or grado sr125 since i live in an apartment and use the computer either late at night or early in the morning. i think for just regular use any of those speakers might do but for the movie watching and gaming the headset would be my peripheral of use

what could you recommend in that line of thought? or do you think maybe the logitec X530 might be sufficient?

personally i want an immersive experience while gaming and a good sound while watching movies. i dont really listen to music on the computer too much for it to be a priority

Well...modern Motherboards have good soundcards, unless you have a good and by good I mean much better then the joke "Gaming" speakers/sub packages that many companies like logitech sell...I have personally tried myself using a one of those Logitech systems that my friend has with a soundcard and without and in music and games, sound was pretty much the same. You should spend more money on the sound system itself, that will make a true difference.

altought id prefer the HD515 or the HD595, the hd555 uses some surround technology and spreads out the sound in order to immitate a wider soundstage, so u cant really get that pinpoint soundstaging and tight bass.

your saying a wide soundstage wouldn't allow me to be able to pinpoint sond such as footsteps or a good loud bass of a helicopter passing over?

it looks like i'll be gettting a hd598 anyway, but i just want to clarify the point

u could say its more like an emulated soundstage... this wide soundstage on the 555 arent achieved by precision-impulse timed drivers, this is helped by the enclosure, and it strecheds out the sound rather then SPREADS out, therefore its not pinpoint. it still has good bass though. altough the 595 are a bit tighter.

a lot of people claim the 555 are better then the 515, but this is not nessecerily true to their stands of 'OMG WAT A DIFFERENCE!!!', its major change is in the soundstage, and IMO it is not exactly for the better.

footsteps arent hard to hear:) jsut remeber this isnt surroundsound. so any footsteps u hear, will be either on the left or the right ear or in between of the ears.
