My understanding of Al Quaeda's (as well as the other jihad organizations) longterm agenda, is that they are attempting to force a return to the Ottoman Empire days when an Islamic regime ruled the middle East and elsewhere. They plan to do this by undermining any western-leaning states, force all westerners (businesses, military, etc) out, assume control of the oil wealth and other assets (which is one reason why I question the sale of advanced technology such as the AMD fabs to the UAE, who can be overthrown or manipulated into caving in to demands from extremists), and generally whatever else it takes to force a return to those halcyon days, except with a modern sharia religious cadre in control instead of some sultan.

Technology is a hpbby. Of course people will argue. Its like Ford vs GM or Coke vs Pepsi. People just enjoy it.

As for the rest of the world, even as a American I am getting sick of it. The world looks to us for help, then spits on us. Its like Haiti. I understand they had a bad earthquake. They have massive casualties. But every day its "Haiti this, Haiti that". Their own government doesn't care enough to try to develop the country into a decent one that can afford to keep their people safe and provide disaster plans. As a example, the country my fiance is from is Moldova. Small country, relies on Russia for a lot of things. She told me that the US tried to buy some factories and land to put jobs there. The government said no. It was a way to start developing a country that has so little.

Recently California has had crazy weather and even a tornado which is common where I grew up in Dallas/Ft Worth texas. In fact here in AZ we got the brunt of the weather with heavy sotrms, snow and hail. But the focus is on Haiti.

We have porr people here, a failing education system and Californias economy is the worst yet they have the most tech businesses and probably the most importation of any state. The focus is on Haiti.

My world has changed due to the way the world is. The US tries to help. We get spit on. We make some mistakes, other good choices. Same result.

So this is a way to keep my mind away from the world and not worry about other countries where they have rich oil barons who save the money only for themselves while they allow their own people to starve and die.

The world looks to you for help? And what about the rest of the world you don't help? Should people be thankful to America for interfering in their personal, internal political matters? its relative to the discussion because it draws a distinction between things of real importance and things of little importance, while not relative to the topic its relative about how the topic could be handled by people intent on trolling for arguments.

PS: Amazing video. It says many things itself. But we can chat about the core of it all day. All humans are not guilty for their constant isolation and unwillingness to help anybody. After you see a movie about a great theft or a murder that happened only because someone was good and naive enough to believe a man and try to fetch him home, you lose faith and trust in the mankind. I lived in miami beach when i was 18 and one day on the way to work i saw a mother exiting the deauville hotel with a toddler, the toddler ran down into the street and on coming traffic was just moments away, I ran acrossed the street to the kid , picked him up and set him down by his mother and walked off without a word except maybe your kid was in the street.

when i was 21 and living in portland oeregon at the jack london hotel my friend the night deskman was attacked by a drunk man with a knife, i stood up immediately grabbed the solid stainless steel ash tray , it had a base a syem and of cours the top tray, I emptied it out on to the floor and stood at the ready as they rolled on the ground.

when my friend had control of the knife i hit the guy between the shoulders 3 times trying not to break bones but make the man give up on the knife and he did.

my friend suffered a small cut on his hand but lived.


there was another person sitting on one of the lobby couches who had a pretty decent muscular build yet sat idle the whole time as if it were television. He said after we had undone the drunk mans attack " I was going to do something"
