My laptop is Dell precision m6400 which has 2 hard disks. It has hdd on base near battery so just need to remove a cover and i can access hdd. so i have 2 hdd, 1 of windows 10, and other of linux, i use both of them in same place i mean on same slot, i remove windows and put linux, remove linux and put windows hdd. thats how i use 2 os and 2 hdd. Windows 10 boot was kinda taking more then 3-4 minutes on hdd, ad i have bitlocker enabled also on 2nd partition. So it takes time around 5minutes in total to start windows, just a shortcut i use is to go hibernate on windows and remove hdd when laptop completely hibernates (all lights get off). and put linux hdd.

I have been using this method since more then 4-5 months, but i started to use hibernate just this week, but yesterday when i put windows hdd and start up, it said automatic repair, and other try said unable to boot invalid image or corrupt. then i force shutdown from powerbutton and then turn up it worked. But i see now " So i was kinda scared of loosing this hdd as i cannot currently afford one.

I did run system checks, and fixing errors. But i was thinking what if i reinstall the windows on C partition and keeping 2nd partition as is? will it fix the issue of sectors? and hibernate will also be fixed without corrupting? OR could a reset windows be a better option?

I took it off from a i5 laptop. It was in good condition when i started using without any errors, but i recently found this current pending sector count issue. My laptop also works directly, i mean i don't have battery and my area also have electricity shortage issue since ages, so it can go anytime shutting down my laptop forcely. I almost keep my laptop on whole night and sometimes whole day every day. Because i keep downloading some files overnight and work in day time, so active laptop is fast to access, other than turning it on.
That pending sector count is telling you something is not right.
Run a chkdsk on the C drive with the R option see what it says...

Put the w10 hdd in the pc.
Run a pass of crystaldiskinfo on the hdd.
Post a screenshot of the results.

That pending sector count is telling you something is not right.
Run a chkdsk on the C drive with the R option see what it says.

After that's done run it again on the D drive see what it says.

it says in use, and do you want to scan on next startup. and i do yes, it scans all files and shows desktop. what should i tell to you?

Did you use the "R" option with chkdsk?

Could be just a one off thing.
Make sure you have a complete backup of that disk.
Keep and eye on that pending sector count if it goes up R+R the disk.

see. if i say Yes on force dismount on D: then it takes forever to check, i mean i almost put it on for 2 or more hours but still stuck at like near 100 checkups out of 6k+ or maybe that was 60k+ also what is R+R?

Run each volume one at a time.
Set it up for C and reboot.
Let chkdsk run.
Not sure but you may need to look in event viewer to see the results.

Then set it up for D and reboot.
Let chkdsk run.

Depending on the size of the volume it can take a long time.

R+R is remove and replace.

Then it’s dead and it needs to be replaced. I don’t know why you have to keep being told the same thing

yeah, that all means exactly NOTHING. HDD fail new or old for various reasons. HDD are prone to failure by thier design

SSD is far more reliable and longer lasting in my experience. Never had a moments trouble with ANY SSD so far that I have installed for myself or others. And that's a lot of SSD.

what region are you in? Can you get Crucial MX500 SATA3 ssd? those are fantastic replacements for HDD. get as big as you can afford. You need to replace the HDD anyway, so upgrade to SSD now.

Well, I DID have an SSD die suddenly. 3 year old Sandisk.
No idea why. Backups and warranty to the rescue.
Yeah, I ripped my backup plan off of you! LOL. But, it saves me time in the long run and I never worry, OMG gonna lose everything!

Will a computer hdd be good instead of ssd? it will cost me less and hdd is enough for me. i mean i can use a connector to connect 3.5" hdd to laptop via usb and a 12v/2a power adapter to power hdd.

if you buy an HDD you are wasting both time and money. it is far more likley to "die" unexpectedly than an SSD. of course any device can fail for various reasons, but usually it's within a timeframe where you can RMA it and get a replacement

but the ultimate choice is yours, if you want to stick with HDD then get a new one and do it

oh no... the current pending sector count is now at 2.... could this happen due to sudden drop of electricity?
also the PC HDD is way more cheap then ssd here and affordable for me in my area. like 6-7 $ for a 300+gbs HDD, while ssd cost like 40$ for 120gbs not even of samsung or crucial

If you have wonky power in your area think about getting an ups system.

It's your call about the hdd.
If you decide to keep using it at least keep your backups current and prepare for the worst.
