Question High CPU temps when gaming ?

Good morning everyone,

Really hoping you can help :)

I recently got an arctic liquid freezer ii 240 rgb but am having some temp issues. Idle,
the temps can range from 29-40 degress depending on what im doing( browsing chrome etc) but as soon as i press play on a game,
within seconds, the temps rocket to around 90, sometimes hitting 100..i have reseated the cooler multiple times, aswell as reapplied thermal paste

My current setup is 3 lian li st120 fans at the front, 1 corsair fan at the back( it came with the 4000d case, not sure which exact fan it is, apologies)
and the cooler at the top as an exhaust aswell. I was aware that temps might increase slightly with a top mounted radiator, but surely not this much lol

Current specs:
i7 10700
16gm corsair vengeance ram 3200mhz
6700xt
500gb ssd
3tb hdd
750 evga gold psu
b560 torpedo mobo

ANY help would be greatly appreciated, im losing my mind, and spent the last of my dosh on this cooler lol so cant get a replacement..OOF..

pretty much all the reviews ive read have been really good, which is why i went for it :/

I have contacted arctic about it, still waiting for a reply

THANK YOU for any help you can provide :)

Nate

should it be a quite noticeable vibration? cos when i touch it i dont feel much..i should also state that the temps fluctuate quite a bit, sometimes jumping up to 50-60 then back down to 34

Try listening to it or touching the block as it should vibrate. Or when you are playing a game, touch the tubes and one should be hotter than the other. If its both cold, maybe the pump is DOA.
I don't know if it's just me or what but I don't feel any difference between the tubes in terms of temperature.

I do hear a noticeable sound kind of like "wrrrr..." that definitely doesn't sound like a fan, which I'm assuming is the pump

well. i guess i do kind hear a noise like that..i unstalled msi center, and restrted my pc, so fan control went back to bios, since doing that, idle temps have dropped alot, now i idle around 22-28, and when gaming , if the game is more demanding( cyberpunk 2077 forexample) the temps are between 75-85..ALOT better than hitting 100 for sure, but is that still normal?

oh for real? dam. i previously had an x62 and an i5 4570, and at load it would hit maybe 65 degrees, i guess thats why im so confused when im seeing 80-85, and its freaking me out lol. well, if thats the case then awesome. hopefully its fixed now. ill run a few stress tessts to be sure :) thanks bro

also as a side note the thermal throttling limit if I recall correctly is 100, but ideally you don't want it past 90. Tell me how the temps are during the stress test

Mate..im ashamed..EVEN THO its my first full pc build( got all the parts maself and put that shiz together) i am super annoyed at myself..after all my posts( not just here lol, i even emailed the company in a blind panic lol)..the thermal paste wasnt covering the whole cpu..i cant believe it..i reapplied so many times..ive been using a pea sized ball in the middle...i decided to try and reapply the paste again, one last time, but i used the X method...BOOM...idle temps are between 15-20..intense gaming..never over 50...between 38 and 47ish..im so ahsmed of myself...oof...SORRY for wasting your time man. truly man :/ :/

you live in a pretty cold place don't you? I idle at around 40 lol

Also it's okay, we all do stupid things at times, I once installed a i7 6700K backwards in the socket and pushed the locking mechanism down, bent the bottom pad and bricked it

aye, i live off the coast of england so its pretty cool most of the time. i recently got 3 lian li st120 fans that im using as intake which are moving quite a bit of air, im guessing that helps? oh man, i honestly cant believe it lol. the difference is nuts..oof..

oh <Mod Edit> no way lol, not good :) mate , you have been so helpful, i cant explain how much i appreciate it. i been losing my mind and cudnt really get many answers online, so thank you. this liquid freezer ii is quieter than my nazxt x62 that i had, its very impressive, i highly recommend getting one if your in the market for a new aio...BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD...make sure the thermal paste is on properly..i know you already know, im just poking fun at my mishap lol
