I'm in the spot right after the mimic takes your armor.

Your way is blocked by the blue enegry beam things. The game gives you
a hint that by wearing the ring from the sleeping man you should be able
to get past them or destroy them or something.

However, my way is blocked regardless of whether I'm wearing it or not.
What could I be doing wrong?

Some of the barriers are there when you're wearing the ring, but not
when you aren't. Some are there when you're not wearing the ring, but
not when you are. But none are there both when you're wearing the ring
and when you aren't. You need to alternate--put on the ring and walk
until you reach a barrier, take it off and walk until you reach another
barrier, and so on.

LOL! It takes a really sick mind to think up something like that...

Pure serendipity - I'm at the same spot right now and was near the point
of sending a brick thru my monitor I was getting so frustrated.
