So they will be protected? Ye gods! Next, the brown rat!

It smells of the start of a ban on backyard air rifles
I noticed this afternoon that Starlings are already building their nest in a
neighbour's eaves

I've heard they intend to put Canada Geese on the list

Probably one of those 'racially sensitive
issues', seeing as many of the starlings we see are
(allegedly) Russian. ;-) They certainly don't
understand basic English like "Oi, ah heck Off!"

I realize that sparrows are meant to be having a hard time. I
usually knock of the "scouts" in the spring and don't have
problems. But in response to pleas from the birdy people on
another list, I left them one year. Talk about rats with wings!
I sometimes wonder whether it is legal to get up in the morning.

They insist on everything being clinically clean and then wonder
why these species are disappearing.

You wouldn't believe the capers I have to go through these days
to get some dirty tripe for the dogs! Registration, daily
records, everything labelled, quarterly inspections,
everything washed with an "approved disinfecant"
(forget Jeyes), consignment notes, dogs must be fed
indoors, ....and that's just the start of it. Can't even hang a
bit of fat out for the blue tits. They have all gone mad. And I
am NOT joking!

Not fat off dirty tripe. I have to protect tripe from birds
while it thaws, then feed all dogs inside on a hard surface so
nothing remains for the dickie birds to get. If I hang up a bit
of fat off a tripe for the blue tits, I suspect I would be
dragged out and publicly hanged as a warning to others.

Very strict regulations now apply to the disposal of swill which
will in the future all go for composting.

Putting up bacon rhind for the birds is, I feel sure, absolutely
verboten, though I cannot quote you chapter and verse. Whatever
you do, don't let your pet pot bellied pig even smell a dry
crust! I kid you not.
