How can I connect my computer to my laptop

I need to transfer a file from my dekstop computer to my laptop. But my monitor is dead. how can I do it

assuming that a least one has gigabit ethernet, just connect them with a direct cable, restart both and try a remote desktop connection from one to the other. Or borrow a monitor somewhere / use your TV / ...
