wow, I just saw a posting which spoke negatively of the author and was imediately removed when I refreshed my screen. I didn't agree with the posting necessarily but I was hoping this was an open forum.

The Rules of Conduct clearly state that personal attacks are not permitted. While we do highly value free speech and an open forum of discourse at Tom's Hardware, the comment in question very directly targeted the author, rather than the contents of the article. Personal attacks, however couched in valid opinion, are not welcome. Thanks for understanding, and let's keep things in perspective. :)

@rubix_1011:
It's not a comb-over; he simply parted his hair on the left instead of parting it in the middle or combing it back. A comb-over involves taking hair from the side of your head and combing it over the top of your head to cover baldness. There's no way you'd get that kind of coverage with a real comb-over, and the part would have to be further to the side.

ossie,
I think alot of readers of TH are haters of apple (including myself) because the people who aren't technical have always loved them and bragged about how apple is better since the begining of the mac. In reality, they have good products, but they are way over hyped.

We like to lash out at the people who don't know how to save mp3s on a memory card and put it in their $30.00 sandisk player, so they go out and buy a $200.00 ipod. Meanwhile, Stevie boy keeps taking trips to the bank.

As for Bill, well I agree, he is a little greedy too, but Stevo Roney is much worse.

BTW, open office is awesome!

chomlee,
you can safely bet all you have on that...
As a finished product (hw/sw/support) macs where, and still are, a better product, even if still somewhat more pricey (20 years ago apple's prices were obscene, but they're still around). Whatever apple's detractors claim, for the less technical inclined customer, apple's offer is very appealing.

That most, if not all, big corporations are built on greed, is well known.

I beg to disagree, but billy boy is much, much more greedy than you paint him. Don't let yourself fooled by his angelic smile...

I might extend your last remark on more foss...

If Apple is a better product, then they should thank Microsoft.
Per Wikipedia: Apple's customers were demanding a version of BASIC that supported floating point calculations. As Steve Wozniak, the creator of Integer BASIC and the only person who understood it well enough to add floating point features, was busy with the Disk II drive and controller and with Apple DOS, Apple turned to Microsoft, who was the BASIC vendor of choice after their success with Altair BASIC, and licensed a 10 KB assembly language version of BASIC dubbed "Applesoft." Apple reportedly obtained an eight-year license for Applesoft BASIC from Microsoft for a flat fee of $31,000, renewing it in 1985 through an arrangement that gave Microsoft the rights and source code for Apple's Macintosh version of BASIC.

Applesoft was similar to (and indeed had a common code base with) BASIC implementations on other 6502-based computers, such as Commodore BASIC: it used line numbers, and spaces were not necessary in lines. While Applesoft was slower than Integer BASIC, it had many features that the older BASIC lacked:

It seems to also have disabled the 'show' button as well...

I guess after Tuan's article, I'd wonder if it were disabled by accident, or on purpose...

Not on purpose. If you click view the comments on the forums, you can look at the all. We're working on getting it fixed.

Thanks, Jane. The 'view comments' is a bit clumsy, the 'show/hide' button is a bit more selective IMO...

I had no grudge against Apple or Steve before. However, seeing how Steve had become, greedy, self-centered, close-minded, and hypocritical, I now sincerely wish Apple and Steve fall!! I wish someone out there can give Steve a big defeat!! He has manipulated the system wrongfully!! Wish HTC can win the suit.

I, like most of the world, have had my share of headaches with Windows OS's, and at times have been close to destroying my PC in frustration. And I think that microsoft products cost about 10x as much as they are worth. However, the people that paint Bill Gates as greedy are obviously in the dark about how much time, money, and personal effort Mr. and Mrs. Gates gives to charitable causes. And I'm not just talking "for the tax-breaks" kind of charity, but really above and beyond. Starving children, developing poor regions, grants for research, health care, crises... you name it. There's a reason why the largest single donation to charity in history, @ $37 billion by multi-billionaire Warren Buffet, was given to... the Bill Gates charity foundation.

You can't judge a person's moral intentions by measuring their financial success.

[citation][nom]HappyBB[/nom] He has manipulated the system wrongfully!! [/citation]
Right.... and how has he manipulated the system wrongfully? By creating products that people want to buy, by great CEO and excellent business man?
You should search for all the lawsuits that were filed against Microsoft and Apple and maybe than you'll get a clear picture of who has been manipulating the system more?

In other industries when someone tries to do something large and complex that necessairly conflicts with someone's else property government actually HELPS them. For example - if it's about building a road then some properties will be expropriated.

It looks like patent system is totally opposite to that, with the ability of owner of patent for tiny component to block sales of whole complex product.
