The original concept of the patent system was to protect small time inventors from being bullied / stolen from larger competition. At the time it was a great idea because Intellectual property in its current form did not exist. If I invented a new widget that was more efficient then some other guys widget, I could patent it and people would have to work out something with me to use my new widget. The other guy could not copy my widget and sell it as his own without being required to pay me royalties.
This works well with physical things, that you can see and touch. It also works with movies, books, and other presented material. But it doesn't work when something as ethereal as an "idea" is used. And idea is just something you thought up, its not something you did or even something that exists. Patent lawyers can get patents on completely BS items by using creative writing with adjectives.
There needs to be serious patent reform for Intellectual Property patents to prevent these big companies from abusing it by patenting every possible combination of adjectives. Their only doing it to lock out an entire industry / market to themselves only, that is VERY anti-trust / monopoly.
