How to check and edit my ram?

Hi, I currently have ddr3 1600 2x4gb rams. I was wondering how to check if my ram is actually running at 1600. A friend of mine says that sometimes the mobo downgrades it or something so I just wanted to check and make sure. Let's say it really wasn't running at what it's supposed to, like 1333 or something, how would I edit that so that I'll run at 1600? Thanks in advance.

You could install CPU-Z, a free program that tells you the speed of your RAM as well as your CPU and other things. You could also go into the BIOS and check the speed and timings, which is what you will have to do anyways if your RAM is not running at the right settings and you want it to.

Thanks for your reply. I just installed CPUZ and I was wondering where do I look if I want to check if my ram is 1600 or not? Also, let's say I went into bios to edit it if it's not running at the correct speed, what are the steps that I should do in the bios?

The cpu-z spd tab will identify the ram installed in each slot.
The memory tab will identify the current operating speed and latencies (x2 for speed in dual channel mode)

But... it is probably not worthwhile doing anything so long as it works.
You are looking at 1-2% difference in real app performance or fps from slowst to fastest.
Synthetic benchmarks show a greater difference, but they just make you feel good.

Thank you for the reply. I just checked and found out it was at 667mhz, so that would mean it's at 1334? Eh, even though it won't make any difference at all, I feel as though it should be 1600 since I payed for a 1600 xD That's just me though. I'm sorta stubborn that way, but even if I wanted to change that, I still have to find out how to change that through the bios.
