How to connect 3 monitors?

I'm currently trying to connect 3 monitors to my 7970 card. From monitor to PC, the cables I have connected are HDMI-Mini-DP, DVI-HDMI, and a DVI-DVI cable. I have it all plugged in but only 2 monitors are working. When I go to screen resolution to modify my settings, when I select "extend desktop to my display" it says, "unable to save display settings." If anyone could help that'd be great

1. the exact make/model of your card would have been helpful
2. list the connections the other way round, that's easier to read
3. some ports of your card may be shared with others, for example with the second DVI channel.

Connections are Mini-DP-HDMI, HDMI-DVI, DVI-DVI. The card is the Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 (21197-00-40G) 3072MB PCIe x16 Gen 3.0 Eyefinity 6 Edition

once you add a 3rd monitor it must be either DP or use an Active DP adapter. keyword being ACTIVE there.

+1! This card has very limited connections if you don't have dp monitors.

Yes, that adapter will work. With my 6850 crossfire boards I had to use the two dvi connections and the dp with an adapter. I found in the fine print that I could not use the hdmi port at all to make tri-monitors work (even with an adapter) for some reason.
