After the new windows 10 update my sound stopped working. At first there was a problem with my drivers which I fixed. Now the drivers seem to be working but I still don't have any sound. I can't play a test sound and it says everything is working, but it doesn't.

If I run Media Player Classic it gives me the followin error.

I've tried every fix I could find online but nothing seems to work. If anyone has a solution I would really appreciate it.

First the simple question. Are the speakers muted?

When you run any type of audio program do you see modulating green bar levels in the Sounds Property Window?

I tried reinstalling the new drivers. Still no change. I also turned on all my seeing if windows might fix it through the troubleshoot but it doesn't pick up anything. I changed output devices and ports. No change. The test sound still doesn't want to play and it isn't muted. My drivers were working fine a week ago and suddenly it doesn't work. Could it be that my Sound Card has stopped working? The PC is 11 years old.

Since the motherboard doesn't natively support Windows 10, your best bet would be to try the drivers direct from Realtek.

Sorry. Not trying to spam this but I really don't know what to do anymore. I tried troubleshoot again after enabling a few things and this is the results.

It's possible that the audio chip has failed in the motherboard, but it'd be the first time I'd heard of something like that. Your best bet at this point would be to attempt to roll back to Windows prior to the update that knocked out your audio. If you can successfully roll back and get your audio working again, then we're pretty sure it was something in the update that killed it. If it's still not working after the roll back, then it's possible the chip failed and a sound card purchase (or system upgrade) would be in order.

Rollimg back did not work unfortunately. I don't know what else I can try. Restarting the services doesn't work either. Any other suggestions? The motherboard has been giving problems lately.

If there are no other solutions, what motherboard would be a good replacement and cpu?

True but there are other functions of the board not working anymore. Such as sata ports not picking up my drives. Also the Cmos keeps resetting. I mean it's been 10 good years, but it's probably time.

What external USB adapter would work? Don't you still need a sound card gor that to work?

My headphones are using a USB port but not working?

Besides looking for a new board for the old one you might just look into some external sound solution. (Either some internal PCI or PCIe card or external USB adapter.)
For a new platform it would mean new board, CPU and RAM.
