Hi,
I got the grounding wrist strap with cord.
How do I use it by the way? I put the half inch metalic tip into the electric outlet, but it's so short that it barely touches the metalic hole of electric outlet and it slips out of the outlet easily. Where should I ground it?
Thank you very much.

<b>step 1</b>, attach the wrist strap to your wrist ;-), <b>step 2</b>, attach the remaining part to your AMD processor and that should ground you real good!

This may not be the best mothode, but I just take my shoes and socks off 🙂

tape the little metal thing to an <b>unpainted</b> inside metal wall of your case. Make sure it is attached to a <b>metal non-painted</b> inside section of the wall, otherwise you aren't grounding [-peep-].

I made my own ground wrist band. took an old power cord, bunch of tin foil, and old wrist watch band, and VOILa

I personally have never used a grounding strap and really don't intend on using one in the future, you don't need them... Most components on your system are powerless unless they have heaps of resistors... But even then, 15mins and they'll deteriorate.

I also just use the old shoes and socks off idea, unless it's really humid, in which case i just touch the case.... easy

I think you mean capacitors instead of resistors. But, the purpose of the grounding strap is to keep you from shocking your computer (static electricity). Not, to keep computer from shocking you. If are grounding yourself to your house or other, ground your case to the same. An old power cord with the two flat blades removed works good. Your computer can hold a charge of static electricity. If you (wearing ground strap) are the nearest/best ground path then zap. I would ground case then hook ground strap to case via alligator clip attached to end of strap's wire.

BTW wearing ground strap on wrist when you think you are at risk of electrocution is dangerous. If you get zapped on the hand that has ground strap it will ensure your hand is cooked "well done", but, it could save your life. If you get zapped on opposite hand, strap will ensure all current goes straight thru your chest. If you think there is any possibility of shock when working on something, best to be as insulated as possible (not grounded). Touch first with back of hand, because muscle contractions caused by electrocution will pull your hand away. Electricians working on high tension wires while powered up actually connect lead to wire and charge themselves to same voltage as wire they are working on.

You can get Crocodile (<i>american trans.</i> Alligator) clips that connect to the small metal tip. And then you can clip it onto the computer case (an unpainted metal part of course).

The purpose of wrist strap is to keep you from accidentally shock your components with your body's static charge that rendering them fried (most of components inside computer can easily be fried with voltage as little as 300mV).

AMD says ground to electric outlet not case because when you work on case you have unplug, so case is not grounded and grounding case is not complete grounding.
