Does anyone own an HP 8200 External CD Burner? If so, I would like to know how it operates, and if you are satisfied with it. At $211.00 at Buy.com, it is a relatively inexpensive external...but I would like a few reviews before I purchase it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Unless you really need to have an external drive, I would buy an internal one instead. They are much faster and cheaper. For $20-30 more I recommend the Plextor 12/10/32A (IDE internal). For under $200 you could get one of the HP 9100 series internal drives (8/4/32). I had the 9100i (IDE internal) before my Plextor and it was quick, but not as fast as my Plextor.
My girlfriend got a USB HP Music CD Writer last Christmas and it broke a month ago. Can't remember the model name exactly - but it would only burn Music CDs and wasn't that fast (4x write/6x read).

Go with Stan's advice... Unless if you really need an external one, then this one isn't too bad of a choice.

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. Going to look for your recommended model now. The only reason that I was looking at externals, is that I'm hardware illiterate, and afraid that I wouldn't know how to install the internal model.

I have a HP 9300i and it works flawlessly. I can burn 650 megs in about 8 min. That is audio. I have had it for a year now and it had never given me a coaster. I guess it really depends on the individual drive. Some are duds and some aren't but from what I have gathered on the net HP are decent but Plextors are better.
