[SOLVED] i bought a gtx 1660 super, and don't see a drastic difference

my old gpu was a gtx 1050 2gb
specs: ryzen 5 2600
gtx 1660 super 6gb
acer 18.5 inch, 1366x768
arctic blue 750w psu
8gb ddr4 ram
i threw in the resolution and frankly unbranded power supply, as i believe they may play a factor in this issue. also i tried a 1080p monitor and i get the same frames as i do with my 720p monitor.
although i dont get any dramatic lag spikes as i used to with the 1050, i only got an approximate 20-30 fps boost for £248 gpu compared to my old gpu, and it may be worth mentioning that i play rainbow six seige.

edit: forgot to mention that with my 1660 super i get way more frames at 1080p than i did with my 1050.

i just realised that: with the 1050 my gpu utilisation is 99% in games with overclocked, but with the 1660 is under 44%, is this normal?!?

ISSUE SOLVED: i found the solution for the issue and it was a ram issue , i had only 8 gb and i needed dual channel, because with single channel, the RAM is holding the CPU back and the GPU is waiting on the CPU. With dual channel the CPU isn't being held back by the RAM, so it can work more efficiently which means the GPU isn't held back as much by the CPU and can also work harder. thank you to everyone who posted their attempts to help me out. love this community <3

Mark me confused.

One place you say it's the same. The way you word what is said later indicates that you are having less lag and 20-30 frames more?

Unless I am missing something else....you mention moving from a lesser resolution to a greater resolution monitor. You should expect frame drop in a situation like that.

yeah 20-30 frames more than my old gpu on 720p and the same fps with the new gpu at 720p and 1080p, i know.. im as confused as u.

Ok, so you are saying that the card is putting out about 20-30 FPS MORE than your old GPU at 720p, but when you scale up to 1080p your FPS are staying the same with the new GPU, not decreasing (like we should expect).

Have you checked to see if the game itself is automatically scaling your settings such that (for instance) you could be on high settings at the lower resolution and lowered settings at 1080?

yeah exactly, but isn't that we shouldn't expect? because when you upscale your res, shouldn't your frames go down and not stay the same? and i have checked the settings , nothing was changed automatically

Sounds like a drastic difference 20-30 fps and "way more frames" sounds like a decent change. They way you check old vs new is with some benchmarks, run 3DMark (free version is fine) on the old card then on the new one, compare scores.

Did you have VSync enabled? Am I correct in assuming both monitors have a 60Hz refresh rate?

correct :), however i did a in game benchmark test and it showed that i did get a little more frames even with the 1366x768 resolution on the 1660 compared to the 1050, but check out my recent edit on the thread, it happens to be that my gtx 1050 is 99% utilisation in games but only 44% for the 1660

In that case, you won't get any performance increase on 1366x768, or very little, because the 1050 can manage to hit 60fps (thus matching the 60Hz) at that low resolution.

At 1920x1080, however, a 1050 is going to struggle to get 60fps, whereas the 1660 is going to have no problem with it.

what you just said adds up so far compared to everyone else, because i tried the 1050 on 1080p and it was quite laggy, whereas the 1660 super had no problem running on 1080p. but i figured out the reason for my issue to begin with. the 1660 wasnt running on 100% usage it was running below 44% on low settings, hence compromising my gpus full potential and not being able to get all the frames it can produce.. :(
 
Your GPU will work however hard you tell it to. Sometimes, turning the graphics settings down, can actually hurt your FPS, especially if your GPU is otherwise capable of running the game. Try turning your settings up, and see if the usage rises. Your FPS might not change, or it might. You will just need to try it.

@Everyone : i found the solution for the issue it was a ram issue , i had only 8 gb and i needed dual channel, because with single channel, the RAM is holding the CPU back and the GPU is waiting on the CPU.
