Hi everyone!

I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 laptop. Specs: 1tb SATA drive, Intel core i5 7200U, 4gb DDR4 RAM, Optical Drive.

I wasn't aware this was a refurbished laptop until opening it up. It also did not come with a charger. My main use for this is to do office work, as well as watching a film here or there in bed.

Upon starting it up I noticed that it took 10 minutes to load, then a further 5 minutes to actually get on to my home page due to setup. I am aware due to factory reset I had to create a windows account and all of that business. So I shut it down after it was set up and restarted it, but it is still very very slow. Is this a common problem with Inspiron laptops or is this due to it being refurbished?

I was wondering whether or not I should return this laptop, as I believe it was manufactured in 2017. The lifespan of a laptop is around 5 years and due to it being refurbished it has probably knocked a couple of years off of that. Adding all of that up it probably won't last another 2 years, am I correct?

It has a 1 year warranty (renewed). What would you do in my situation? I was looking for a laptop that was in the £250-£350 mark and after looking about I noticed this laptop has great specs considering the amount I paid.

Three other places are selling this laptop for around £450, then at Laptops Direct it is £380 refurbished. I bought mine for £299.

Does the low price mean it hasn't much life left? I have contacted the seller for the details on what exactly was refurbished and the date that it was refurbished etc.

Should I keep it or return it?

Thanks!

Solution
4GB RAM
Spinning HDD

That will be slow.
as pointed out above your already needing a memory upgrade and an SSD hard drive would be nice and faster and already Not having a power supply is for me already leaning on returning.

In my way of thinking if you had paid $50.00 and have these small but still issues that you will have to over come later sure game on. But as it stands you can return and just get another more fully functioning laptop and forgo the head ache.

Next time.

power brick

min 8 Gb memory better 16 Gb

SSD Hard Drive

So at this point you need to ask yourself what's the best solution to get to where you wanted to be with your new addition. I hope I sound positive instead of sounding like i'm being negative...
It should have came with a charger at the very least but maybe that's my thinking? I will be slow at first as I bet windows updates are running in the back ground being as you just more or less just kicked off a fresh virgin install.

Thanks, I believe the missing charger was an error on their part. Do you have any idea as to how long this laptop will last? What do you reckon its lifespan would be?

No way to tell, but going by the Dell laptops we are getting at work, it's already at a good life span having lasted 2 years LOL. We are having issues with laptops months old with things breaking on them. For the speed issues, those are easy to fix with a solid state drive and another 4gb of RAM. Just make sure you have the Windows key with it so you can activate the new Windows setup on it.
