Maybe that's because he's not the dumb ass 😉

Informed people usually make purchasing decisions based on their lifestyle and needs, that's why people buy into Apple in the first place because they know exactly what their needs are. Apple products don't pretend to be able to do everything but as has been said before what they do they do very well. If you want to play Crysis with all settings turned up then only an idiot would spend $8000 on an Apple product to do it, just like an idiot would spend $8000 on a workstation graphics card to play games.

MY Problem with Apple is a personal one. My younger sister is in Graduate school and she's constantly yapping about getting some $2,000 + Apple. I repeatedly tell her with that kind of money I can make her two mid range Computer or one Uber-Computer.

I love my sister and knowing she wants to spend more than $1,500 on computer is killing me. I've even called in some of my other Tech friends to get me some unpublicized deals on parts. We calculated that with $2,000 we can build her TWO $1,800 Computers.

Apple has a following of snobby people (I'd say 40%). A lot of Apple users shun Windows or Linux. They find no fault in over-paying for a computer. I'll say this; A Apple is NOTHING BUT A FANCY OS. As far as the hardware, you can get it form just about any computer store. Most of those snobby Mac loyalists were taught how to use a computer (or taught themselves how to use one), that was RUNNING WINDOWS. My sister has even started sounding like most of those snobby Apple users. We grew up on Windows, she's VERY Fluent in Windows and Pocket PC. It's not until her Sophomore year of Undergrad school she started taking the Apple Drug called "Snobby-Apple".

To all my fellow system computer builders (and those who are just starting out). Place yourself in my shoes, Just typing about this makes me want to vomit.

My wife has a iPhone (I tried to stop her, but she wouldn't listen). She can't even transfer over bluetooth. Who builds a phone now-a-days without a basic wireless transferring method?

But I guess she's a grown women now (she's 23 years old), and if she wants to blow $2,000+ on a MAC, then I guess I can't really do anything but put it in the back of my mind (like some traumatic event).

Some of You nutjobs suffer from MSDS (Microsoft derangement syndrome)
Why would you want to kill the goose that lays the golden egg?
If microsoft went bankrupt you would be bitching how bad things were, after all they do generate billions of dollars in revenue and provide a huge market in IT jobs. If they went, the ecomomy would suffer even more tha it does now.

PS. - After targeting them for decades, the liberals would then want to bail them out!
Go figure. Just proves that comon sense is not very common...

I don't like apple simply because they show their products to be the best, when they're not. The ipod for example is ridiculously overpriced as is every other apple product.

My friend for example has an iphone, he keeps bragging about how good it is. But all I have to ask him is how much it costs him to keep, he spent a couple of hundred quid when it came out, and with his contract he effectively pays for a new one every five or so months.
While I have an old pda of my dads, which does nearly everything his does, and is pay as you go.

In conclusion Ipod=Iphone=I'm a stupid brainless moron who buys every overpriced piece of junk that comes my way.

yes!! EXACTLY!! It's such crap, especially when we can dual boot Windows and OSX on our PC's... but we just choose not to, for good reason.

yes, for some people All Things Macintosh/Apple is like a religion.

but, side-stepping that, Apple's market share is increasing, and more & more industrial strength aps (Maya, in addition to most Adobe products) are being ported to Mac.

personally, Apple lost me with Mac OSX. up till Rev. 8.6, i thought it was a good OS, and used it, mainly for VRML & an ap named GIF Builder.

when i tried OSX, i realized after 20 minutes that i need to read the instruction manual, for basic things, like finding Simpletext.

if i'm going to spend time learning an OS, i'd rather spend that time learning UNIX.

OSX is UNIX...

Computer wise, I hate their pricing for what you get, but that goes for anything now days sadly unless you build it yourself. The only thing they have really that I like, is their style for computers (usually). I can't really comment on software since I havent used Mac's all that often in my life, im sadly more or less locked into windows as im a gamer and im too lazy to find ways to get games to work on other OS's.

And I must idmit I am a fan of their Ipods, being an happy owner of one so far, got it mainly for it's simplicity and ability to hold all my music. And the 30+ hour battery life definately didn't hurt either.

No, it is actually folks like you who constantly try to use that tired argument. The day that the new Macbooks came out, I was appalled at the price/performance, and bought an Asus that had the latest C2D, 14.1 LED screen, 4GB Ram, dedicated Nvidia 9600M graphics with 1GB of its own DDR RAM, 320GB HDD, HDMI, eSATA, Firewire, SD Card reader, same audio chip, Expresscard slot, N Wireless, 4-5 hour battery, and DVDR for $899.

It has MORE in every category down the line and was more than HALF of the same configured Macbook (Bluetooth and backlit keyboard are all it is lacking). It even can run OS X just fine but that is magically not "allowed" by Apple. Sorry, you and everyone who likes to play this game are WRONG.

Apple machines are clearly more exspensive than pcs, for what I would call yesterdays hardware, but they look nice, and OS X is a pretty good Operating system.

If commodore hadn't screwed up so badly in the 1990s I personaly think Apple wouldnt even be second place to the PC/Microsoft.

However, Apple have made the custom/closed design thing work for them, and no matter how much you hate them, they still have some innovative products.

I might consider a mac book as an alternative to a laptop. My desktop computer will always be pc/microsoft machine I can build my self. I expect thats the view most people who visit this site would take.

Its silly to hate Apple just because they take a different approach. Microsoft has used some pretty ruthless marketing its self.

the best apple i've ever had is a Pacific Rose. really SWEET.

Apple left me behind with System 8.6. i don't think OSX is easier to use than XP; i think it's harder to use.

Apple goes to considerable effort to make sure that Apple aps. have a "consistent interface". if you use the Adobe creative suites of products, and you like the interface, then obviously you might be an "Apple person".

i think to some extent with both MS & Apple there is a "we know better than you" (the experienced user) attitude. with MS it was the con that Vista was in any way an improvement on XP - referring to the Visual interface and the features that are system resource hogs. obviously all of the security upgrades could have been released via XP service pack.

Apple people really are arrogant like my friend who has a macbook then i got a pretty good rig and played call of duty very well in front of him(we were gamers and since i have windows i can play more+better hardware for half the price hahahahaha)

I don't "hate" Apple, but there are things about them that i don't like. I like the freedom of getting my hands dirty...inside my PC....swapping hardware to get it configured to my liking. I loathe the MAC/PC ads, makes them look very arrogant.

BOOM! Nail on the head there bro.

I once got told by a mac tech guy, when I went to purchase a special tool needed to get into a case, that they didn't sell the tools for opening a machine to the general public for a reason... ie: "If you own a Cadillac, you take it to a Cadillac dealer to get it worked on."

I resented both the implication that I was incapable, and the arrogance of the statement it's self.

They can keep em! They aren't THAT cool!

I use both. The Macs are for work - the PCs for home.

Over the last few years more and more of my colleagues have been switching to Mac (I work in science). I'm not sure how to state it without it sounding lame but since I switched to Mac at work my stress level regarding computers has come down significantly. My Macbook and IMac both do exactly what they are supposed to do with minimal effort. All the stats, graphing, office and drawing programs are the same as before the switch and the transition was quite simple.

I was using a Mac at home for a while and....boring! You can't tweak anything and doing a search for Mac modding will get you pages of people turning their old, obsolete macs into stupid looking....old, obsolete macs...lol. I recently put together an i7 system and it absolutely screams! You won't hear anybody say that about a Mac. The comments above regarding not being able to "get your hands dirty" with macs are so true. You can't even change the hard drive in a Mac without a major hassle. I switched back to PC at home when I started to seriously consider doing this on my Macs. Very lame.

The other comments I agree with concern the elitism of the Mac users. Browse through a few of the mac-only forums out there and you will find so much abuse poured out on their fellows. It's really quite frustrating and distracting. PC forums like this one are nothing short of helpful on so many levels. Flames are still here but they are minimal. I will say that I think peeps should keep their "why don't you google it" and "why don't you do a search for it" comments to themselves. If that's what you think then just don't answer the post. Some of the same topics come up time and time again because they are relevant. PCs also change so fast that posts become dated very quickly. I'd much rather see the same topic come up over and over again then have to search through a really long post for the information. I'm also glad to see some of the stickied posts being removed here. Was a little surprised at how dated some of them were.

Anyway, thought I would give my two cents worth here. I have no plans to switch away from Mac at work. For my needs Mac is far superior to PC there, but at home the PC rules.

Cheers

P.S. Anybody who says Mac hardware is superior is forgetting what a piece of &$*% the mighty mouse is. Steve Jobs should be ashamed of himself for not getting this right.

i think for some people Mac's are like a religion.

so, just for freedom of religion purposes, we have to allow Mac users to have civil rights like freedom of assembly.

PC>Mac because simply:

-Buy a better rig eg 4870x2, i7, etc for $2000 instead of garbage in Macbook Pro

-Awesome custom cases eg Antec 1200

-You don't need to read all the flashy advertising to be be convinced to buy a PC. It's common sense.

-iWork? it's called Open Office and plugins.

-Programs my butt. Do you seriously believe that $1000 dollars extra is worth the programs in OS X? You're stupid.

Anything I have not said is possibly arguable although futile with the arrogance of Mac users. PCs do not require the $billion dollar adverts like Apple to buy one.

What pisses me off the most from Mac users is that it, "Doesn't get PC viruses" from official page of Apple, http://www.apple.com/getamac/whymac/

WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT? THAT'S OUTRAGEOUS AND ONLY THE MOST RETARDED ASFDADGASDGAxszdckj WOULD BELIEVE THAT.

PCs DON'T GET VIRUSES EITHER IF YOU KEEP IT UPDATED AND PATCHED AND SIMPLY DO NORMAL STUFF (eg don't torrent, surf porn, etc)

I'D WOULD ANY DAY CHOOSE AN UBER GAMING RIG THAN A GARBAGE MAC.

MACs are stupid by attempting to call themselves a mac instead of a computer; personal computer.

A MAC is a PC except its filled with garbage and loaded with OS X.

A PC on the other hand ca be filled with anything "including garbage" or MAGICAL PONIES AND UNICORNS.

To all all who don't know, PCs aren't from MICROSOFT THEREFORE DON'T HAVE TO USE VISTA OR A WINDOWS OS.

I CAN RUN LINUX ON A MAC AND MAKE IT BECOME A "PC" BECAUSE IT DOESN'T HAVE OS X.

PCS ARE NOT PART OF MICROSOFT!!!!!!!!!!!!

IS NVIDIA PART OF MICROSOFT?????

NOOOOOOOOOOO, ITS JUST PARTSSSSS

A PC IS JUST PARTTTTTTSSSS

A MAC IS JUST GARBAGE PARTS AND OS X.

YOU'RE RETARDED I HAVE OPEN OFFICE ON MY MACHINE AND I'M RUNNING VISTA. IT EVEN COMES WITH UBUNTU (LINUX) /facepalm

A PC DOESN'T HAVE TO HAVE VISTA. WHEN EVER STUPID APPLE AND YOU REFER TO "PC" YOU MEAN FREAKING VISTA AND MICROSOFT OS's.

A PC IS JUST PARTS FOR GOD SAKES ALL YOU DUMB MOTHER FRWEasf PISS ME OFF.
