Hello everyone,

I changed my CPU cooler and after it my PC wont turn on anymore. But like nothing wanted to turn on, no fan spinning, no led, no bootup sound, no display output, nothing, absolutely nothing. So i googled and did some stuff like resetting the cmos, replacing and resetting the ram sticks, disconnect the GPU, checking all cables and so on. But nothing changed. I then came to the conclusion that i killed my motherboard with static because at some point i remembered that i heard some kind of "plick" noise while changing the cooler but thought that it was maybe a cable that fell to the ground or a screw or something like that. But that seems kinda hard to believe because i never really touched the mainboard in the process and i didn’t felt some kind of electric discharge from my body. So, the question is, is my motherboard dead, and if so, how could it possibly die and if it would have been killed by static is there a chance my CPU is also fried?

I also did the paper clip method with the PSU and that seems to still work. And i changed the CPU cooler because my CPU was overheating, however i noticed it and shut down my PC before he could have done it. But the weird thing was, when i shut him down my displays went off as did all of my peripherals, yet my PC was still on, the fans spinning and the RGB shining for at least a minute.

I would be happy for answers and help. :)

is a screw shorting the motherboard?

is the cmos reset jumper still in place? remove it
is the cmos battery correctly plugged in? plus visible, try replacing the battery C2032 3Volt
take some pictures of the motherboard, GPU and PSU connections, upload to imgur or similar

did you use the correct mounting kit of the new cooler? did you eventually tighten it too much?

Hello,

sadly my motherboard doesn’t have a cmos battery i think. It’s an gigabyte b550i aorus pro ax. I tried the screwdriver method on the cmos jumper. Because the jumper seemed to not work i also tried to use the q-flash button to flash the bios but that also didn’t work. Usually when flashing the bios via q-flash the PSU fan should spin and an indicator light on the Mobo should light up but both things weren’t the case. I checked the cables from the PSU but they look normal to me. No sign of damage like melted plastic or dark spots. The PSU is an Seasonic Focus SGX 650W.

I don’t know if i tightened the cooler too much, is this possible? What would be signs of it?
