Right now I am using i3 8100 for the past 3 years with RX 580

Recently I am feeling kind of fps drops in many games like Valorant , God of war, etc etc

I have 16GB Gskill 2400 Bus ram and 550 Watt Antec Neo Eco 80+ Bronze PSU

In my country

i5 12400 + MSI B660 mag Bazooka (DDR4) = $500

i5 11400 + Asus TUF B560 = $360

now I have a corsair h45 cooler as well if I get 12400 I have to get a new cooler ( $50 extra ) as well or if I get 11400 i can use my cooler .

Is the i5 12400 really worth it?

PS : I will upgrade GPU to 3060/3070 if prices gets normal this year

I use my pc for my work which doesn't require many heavy cup and i do gaming

Please HELPPP!

Both the 11400 and 12400 will be huge upgrades. I would opt for the 11400 given those prices and the fact that the difference is not noticed untill running a high end GPU, several times faster than an RX580

Thanks for the reply. Will 11400 will be enough for the next 3-4 years? I know this is a dumb question but looking at the current market how technology is evolving I am just a little bit curious if I pair it with RTX 3060 this year I hope it will last for some time though as I don't upgrade very often

That depends heavily on what you do and your expectations. My i5-3470 served me well for nine years, could probably have served me for a few more years since I don't care about PC games much beyond WoW. That was the first time I upgraded a PC after the four years mark, never expected to be happy with it for that long. I have an i5-11400 now and expect it to do well enough (at least for me) for the next 5+ years, long enough for DDR5, PCIe 5.0, USB4, etc. to become baseline instead of luxury bullet points that add $300 to system build cost.

To get the most out of both the i5-11400 and 12400, you would need to upgrade your RAM to at least 3200-16. Benefits trail off quickly beyond 3600-16.

For newer games like GoW, the RX580 is approaching the end of the road.
