If i added a bigger Power supply to a dell 4600 would it perform bette

Hi guys, I have a few older dell PCs, one 4600 & one 4500, Now im thinking the 4600 is the better of the two on account of 4 gigs of memory and a 2.4 Ghz CPU, versus 2gigs and 1.8 Ghz.

Im going to try and turn one of them into a media center and im curious if i replaced the OEM power supply in the 4600 with a 500 watt ULTRA V SERIES power supply which has sata connectors, where as the OEM PSU does not.....the 4600 does have 2 MOBO sata connectors, and i do have a PCI sata card..

I also have a geforce PNY 9600GT 1gig ddr3

and plan on using a 500 gig sata HD

So what do you guys think? Any thoughts, suggestions or experienced recomendations would be great!!

Id also love to hear what softwear i should install...I have windows 7 or XP Media, or just XP pro....I would like it so when i turn the PC on via remote it boots right into the media player. so any help would be great! Thanks!

If your current psu has adequate power,then a larger psu will have no effect on performance.
If the current psu is noisy because it is near it's maximum capacity, then a larger psu might be quieter. A good thing for a media center PC.
The power needs of the graphics card is what mostly determines how strong a psu you need.

The absence of sata connectors should not be a problem. Just use molex to sata adapters.

Take a good look at the windows-7 media center application.

well other than that Power supply all i have are other OEM PSU and i do have the molex to sata connectors i just thought it might be better to have that 500watt whcih has the sata power?

However i could use my PC which has a E6300 Dual core on a dg965wh board, win7

Im not too crazy about the wdTV thing, It wont play WMV files and some others, i did figure out how to update the firmware, but im not sure hpw to really set it up, plus the remote is super small and cant Jump forward and backward 10-30 seconds like a dvd.

So what do ya think? Again i would really love to use one of the dell PCs, but it it would be easier to use the newer E6300 that would be great, however ivI gueess i would use the Hauppaige tuner in the PCIx1 slot because i have my PNY gerforce GPU in the PCI-E x16 slot.
