My pc got some weird virus that eats up c drive space and i wanted to install windows to solve that but i just discovered my dvd drive doesnt work anymore. Its an old pc and the dvd drive hasnt been used for ages. I cant download the windows installation media from microsoft web due to low space in c drive. Now if i take my hdd to a friends setup ( completely different from mine) and install windows there and take it back to my setup, will it run perfectly even though i hv i7 6th gen with gigabyte mobo and my friends got either amd cpu with asus/ other mobo Or intel cpus(latest gens) with asus/msi mobo?? Please help me with your knowledge from relevant experiences...

That "virus" probably is System Restore, pagefile.sys and hiberfile.sys.
:giggle:

Turn off System restore.
Disable hibernation.
Delete large user files - videos, music.
Clear garbage from downloads and temp folders and recycle bin.

You can use windirstat to find, what's eating space on your drive.
Run it as admin.

Can i remove the old partitions and have a clean installation from usb?
No idea what you're actually asking.

You need a Windows 10 USB to install with.
Then, this...

Nah bro i checked all those. It was a kms (key management service) that i once used to activate the windows and other ms softwares like office and others for free. It had a spyware within it. Even though i uninstalled it found a way through...

No i wouldnt open my hdd i would directly boot from dvd in his gig and remove old partitions along with all the files and install clean windows on it. The thing is will it work on my oc?
The installation DVD would have to talk to the hdd to remove anything from it and at that point the virus can infect the ram of the system and then everything it wants to or can find connected.

Curious if your friend is willing to let you use his hardware to like you said install your windows on his PC than try it back on your system.

Better to ask that friend to download a proper legit OS 10/11 from Microsoft, Build your USB install drive on his computer than take that to yours.

And if that Virus is so pesky is the option on the table to just buy a $30.00 SSD start using that and deal with the virus on the side on infected drive.

If you were my friend, and came over with your infected HDD, and asked to plug it into my system...I'd be seriously insulted.
You thinking I was clueless enough to allow a known infected drive to connect to my system.
Bro the virus is just a spyware and it cant infect ram or other parts. It just sits back and monitor what i do. Thats it

You're simply guessing. I'm sure you haven't dissected the inner functions of "some weird virus." Unless you actually sat down and did an analysis of the actual virus with something like Ghidra, you have zero basis for saying any of this.
