Hey guys!
I have finally got my new i5-2310 based computer working after my PSU burned up much of my last build, a Core i3-540-based machine. I had noticed that the old one idled a little high (~115 degrees F) and when dissembling it, I found that there was no copper plate between the aluminum fins of the heatsink and the processor, just Arctic Silver bridging the two. I guess, being a noob (I was a decent programmer but had little experience with hardware), I did not know a piece was missing.
Anyway, the fire was not related to the processor but due to some overvolt on the +5V or +12V lines on the PSU. I would like to tell Intel what happened though (so that they can hopefully avoid doing this in the future and send me the plate, if possible), but do not know whom to tell. Does anybody know? Thanks!
