Intel Pentium D 925 3.0 GHz OVERHEATING??

So before I overclocked to 3.3 ghz the max temp was around 60C to a min temp of 45C.

I have recently installed a new graphics card (Asus Nvidia geforce gt520) and the temperature blasted to min of 50C and a max of 74C. I reverted back to 3.0ghz and the idle temp is still 50c and reached the low 70c when playing bf p4f.

I believe i have the stock fan and heatsink and i use SpeedFan to record my cpu temp.

Is this normal to have an idle temp of 50c to 70c. Any way i can cool it down without buying anything.

Hmm...without buying anything...i like your style lol. I would say yes, those temps are indeed a bit high. I would experiment with case fan placement, as it sounds like your intake must be getting choked by your GPU. Also try reseating you CPU heatsink and replacing the thermal grease. It never hurts.

I too think its my GPU. I have tested it without the computer cover panel thingy and the temperature lowered a bit but i dont want to use my computer everyday without it

Pentium D chips are big space heaters as is. Trying to overclock one with stock cooling will make it reach damaging levels of heat quickly.

Did you OC and add the GPU at the same time? Or did you OC your CPU and THEN add your GPU? If you did them at the same time, yeah it's definitely your CPU. if not, then it's probably the GPU choking the air supply to the CPU.

I reverted it back to 3.0ghz then added my GPU. The thing is that the pathway for the air to the cpu isnt being blocked by the GPU at all.

A 300Mhz overclock of a Pentium D is not going to help anything anyway. You could overclock it a gigahertz and you would still have a Pentium D. At 3Ghz it's roughly the same as a 1.4Ghz Atom netbook processor. If you want to play new games on any but the lowest settings you will need a full system upgrade.
